ISP : BT - Arrakis (Spain)

I am trying to get the print server functionality working but no luck.

I have a Brother HL-2030 and I know that it is not in the compatibility list. But the HL-2040 is, and the differences between the two are minimal.

However, the TP-Link printer utility does not see the printer and the network scanner function is grayed out.

Anyone any ideas?

You can bypass the router printer set up. Just install the printer to one device and then find it in windows 7 for all devices and install it. The only thing with this is that the one PC it is installed on will have to be turned on for anyone else to print.

OK, so I had better connect the printer directly to that PC. In fact, I already had that situation without the router. But I thought it would be an advantage to be able to bypass that PC.

What is the use of the USB port on the router (apart from other uses) for a printer?

It is for printer sever function. However, yours is not in compatibility list. I think that's the key point.

Even if you use the USB port on the back of the router you need your laptop to set it up. What ever laptop you use to set it up will have to be turned on anyway for other people to print. Makes no sense but it is what it is.

Yes, it makes no sense. Apparently, they thought, hey we have room for an USB port, so let's put one on. But they forgot to think about how to use it.

I just added a printer and it works perfectly that is not in their compatibility list. It is a HP Officejet 4215xi. Try it again using the most recent TP-Link printer software.

BartZorn, if you have an anti-virus installed with firewall (McAfee, AVG, etc), then disable the firewall and try to find the printer on TP-Link USB Printer Controler.
