Hi,
I have a WR1043ND
Firmware Version:
3.13.12 Build 120405 Rel.33996n
Hardware Version:
WR1043ND v1 00000000
I tried to connect a WD MyBook Essential 3tb hdd NTFS, but it never recognized it. Of course, I connected it with the external power supply.
With a 15gb pendrive FAT32 it works OK.
Any clue? The user manual say that NFTS *is* supported.
Thanks in advance!

dchoi007: same here. Made a 1.5gb partition and left 1.5 unallocated, and the router fails to detect it.
Anyone knows if there will be a fix for this bug?
Thanks

I am having the same problem with my Seagate 3 Tb HDD (which has its own power supply) and most definitely do not appreciate the lack of accurate information given out by TP-Link, which makes it highly unlikely that I will ever purchase a TP-Link product ever again. I feel that I have been seriously misled into thinking this router had more capabilities that it actually seem to have, the instruction manual/help is practically useless and repeated e-mails to support has all gone unanswered. Never again!
In the meantime, I am trying to get SOMETHiNG, ANYTHINH to work - and, thanks to information on this forum, have managed to get the router to recognize a smaller MyPassport 1 Tb HDD. Using the router's administrative page, I configured sharing and apparently, there, on that page, all is wel - BUT nome of my computers can see it no matter where I try to look! What am I missing? Where do my computers have to look? Is there any additional configurations that should be done?
Can someone give me suggestions?
Thank you very much.

Have you tried \ Start->Run-> \\192.168.1.1 or \\192.168.1.1\volume1 ? And then map it , to be permanent.

SOLUTION
In Windows Disk managament
-ERASE (not format... no format... not format) the partitions.
-Convert disk to MBR
-Create a NTFS partition (the limit of MBR is 2048 GB)
-ENJOY
DOUBTS??? search in google MBR DISK.
The GPT tecnology is rare at this time, but MBR works always, is very old

Thanks for answering.
Sadly, my disk was already MBR, and not shown...
Any news from the developers??

Guys, I think this is an issue specific to the router and IDE/SATA to USB bridges in these drives.
I bought a WR842ND and had a play with the USB sharing functionality.
At first I couldn't explore a 128MB USB pen-drive using the "Open disc" button in the WEB GUI and was told by TP-Link technical support that it was because IE9 and FF weren't supported and to use IE6,7 or 8 (!)
I had a netbook with IE8 and that didn't work either. I was unable to map the network drive through Windows either
In the end I found a program called "Basic Browser" which was based on IE 6 (I think) and that worked and oddly I was able to "map" the drive no problem afterwards.
I then tried a laptop 80GB IDE drive/USB bridge and that worked fine too.
I then tried a desktop 120GB IDE drive/USB bridge and the router just wouldn't see it (both these drives were powered externally) although I had no problem connecting these drives through a laptops USB port.
In the case of the desktop drive/bridge after connecting the drive to the router the web GUI shows the storage, FTP and media service as being "Stopped" and the start button is greyed out in each case. The rescan button is available but nothing happens when it is clicked.
On the router the USB connected LED is lit as expected. Both these drives were formatted as NTFS btw.
TP-Link tech support mentioned the power issue (duh!) and the 2TB/8 parition limit neither of which applied in this case.
The USB wireless printing thing is great, the other USB functions (FTP/Sharing) a bit of a gimmick if you ask me. I've setup an old netbook with a 1TB drive as a NAS/FTP server connected through one of the LAN ports and that works great.
The idea of sticking a 2 or 3TB drive on a less than stellar USB 2 port .... hmmm not so compelling ;-)
