This router only has 1 USB port.   I have a single drive attached to the USB port.   In Windows 7, I am mapping to the USB drive attached to the router.

However, it appears the router is indiscrimminately changing the assigned name of the folder on the volume from sda1 to sdb2.    As a result,  on all computers connected to the router, I have to keep changing my mapped network drive settings.

What can I do to keep the router from changing the folder names?

I have the same problem with my Archer C8 after recently upgrading the firmware.  Previously it assigned share names volume1 - volume7 to disks on the USB 3.0 port, and volume9 - volume15 to those on the USB 2.0 port.  I have only one USB disk, plugged into the USB 3.0 port.

After firmware upgrade, the share name is initially sda1, but spontaneously changes now and then to sdb1.  This causes a failure on all PCs that have mapped the shared drive, and causes the backup software to fail.  The only way I've found to restore the share name is to Safely Disconnect the drive, then unplug it, and plug it back in.

This is a major nuisance that needs a fix.

@KVH

This is happening on my archer vr600v and it's driving me crazy, please fix this issue! I'm close to returning the product as a result.

@ZGWSTORES

The exact same thing is happening to me.  I have a C5400 that is working extremely well except for this USB problem.  It has actually been happening since I bought the router.  I really don't expect TP-Link to address the problem since it has been going on for so long.

There is a workaround that is effective on the Archer C8, and I think I saw someone use it on the C9 as well.

From the Web interface Advanced tab, open USB Settings/Sharing Access.   Create a new share manually and give it whatever name you like.  You can share the entire drive it you want, which would be equivalent to the volatile sda1 share.   The manually created share name will not change spontaneously.

Forgot to note: first you must turn off Share All. You can still enable share all for the manually created share.
