OpenVPN with Dynamic DNS
OpenVPN with Dynamic DNS
Hi,
I managed to generate the client ovpn file from from my router, but noticed the client ovpn file still uses a static ip "remote 118.300.311.73 1194". I've already configured my router Dynamic DNS, can I ask how come the ovpn file doesn't is using my ddns name instead of a static ip? Did I configure somewhere incorrectly?
Thanks and will look forward to your reply.

Hi!
I have the same problem. As you recommended I try to edit the OpenVPN-Config.ovpn script file. I chaged the IP address to my tplinkdns address but it still not work. Is there any solution for this problem? Thank you for your reply!

Hi Balint,
When you say it still doesn't work, that gives me the impression that it didn't work before you changed the IP to the URL which might indicate another issue.
For reference, I changed the line:
remote xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 1194
to
remote xxxxxx.tplinkdns.com 1194
Note that I left the port number "1194" at the end. I then removed the profile and re-imported the .ovpn file on my clients. It shows the server as my ddns url and connects without an issue.
I hope you get it working!
Best of luck

I have Tplink Archer C6 and now facing issues with tplinkdns.com and openvpn configuration. Previously that hack has worked, changing the static IP address to dynamic dns URL. Not anymore it does!
So I had to create a new profile/certificate and I can only connect through "vanilla" direct IP address and UDP, but the second I change the config to xx.tplinkdns.com, the openVPN client fails. Basically it doesn't seem to find the server linked. But its there, as I can ping the WAN port and also telnet to the set VPN port when TCP is set.
I did install a firmware update (1.3.0 Build 20200402 rel.52000) a month or so ago, before that was working fluently.

I have the same issue with the C2300
version 1.0.4 Build 20200211 rel.67420
Oops.
It works now.
The reason why it didnt work is that, after importing the ovpn file in my iphone, I did not switch off wifi. I still was on the internal network.
After switching off wifi it went ok when making contact with 4G.

The method still works fine for me. It's possible that my IP address has never changed though.
