Combination mesh network using E4 & M4/M5
Combination mesh network using E4 & M4/M5
Hi
I have recently purchased E4 (set of 2) for my home use. I later realised that E4 will limit my WiFi speed to 100 Mbps. Given I have a 300 Mbps broadband & a need for a 3rd node, I have 2 options
1 - Return the E4(set of 2) & buy M4 (set of 3)
2 - Buy a single piece of M4/M5 & use it as a master node along with existing E4s as slave nodes. I am assuming this option will give me more than 100 Mbps on WiFi.
Please can you advise which will be a better option? I am inclined on option 2 as it will be least messy.
Thanks
Himanshu

@frederikk I'm planning to connect all the slaves ( E4s) to the main device (M4) that is connected to my router via Ethernet cable. I really hope I could get somewhere around 200 Mbps, which is my current internet speed rather than the 95 Mbps that I'm currently getting.

@Muji if you go through the main deco, you should be able to have the new features. there is another post about that, i answered, but we are waiting for official statement from tp-link.
for the speed, it depends on a lot of factors unfortunately....ans your main will be the bottleneck as it will concentrate all the traffic. but if it is a more powerful one, might be possible.

@frederikk I have read that it is possible to connect different TP Link devices together but I'm worried about the speed. I only need it to be close to the 200 which is the speed I am paying for. I have already bought an M4, and I hope the combination works.

@Muji i tried , I have 350mb plan and earlier i was having 3 deco e4 . only providing 90mb max speed . but now when i installed one more deco which is m4 as a main deco . i am getting 320mb from main deco and rest giving 1
50 mb maximum. Not satisfied .

I think there's some limitation. If someone is using all 3 m4 deco please let me know what max speed they are getting ? Thanks

I understand your pain. Honestly I have given up on Deco series & gone ahead with a second broadband connection.
Specifically on Deco E4, suggest be happy if you are getting a stable/consistent speed of 150

@Kevin_Z Thanks. I hat decided to go ahead with option 2. I am able to buy Deco M5 single piece in my country.
Follow up query - I can see Deco M5 provides many advanced features (homecare, antivirus etc.) which are not supported by E4.
I wanted to know if I use M5 as my master node, will I be able to utilise these features via the E4 slave nodes
Hi! I am also considering adding an M5 to my existing 3-pack E4. Did you get the additional M5 features (like speed test, homecare, etc) when you made it your main node even when connected to an E4 node?

@Kevin_Z Option 2 works great...
Main Node:
DECO M5, First Floor Hallway.
Satellite Node:
DECO E4, Ground Floor Living Room.
Some loss in transfer speeds is to be expected in the satellite node. That said there is better 2.4 ghz coverage and transfer speeds.
