Hello,

For the last couple of months we have had problems with our Deco P7 system.

Our setup had been like below since we installed it in early 2019. ISP modem on the ground floor (Wi-Fi off), hardwired to Deco 1 and Deco 2 on respectively ground floor and first floor. Deco 3 in the attic, with Wi-Fi and power line connection. This was working fine until a few months ago.

One day our internet completely cut out and no amount of resetting devices brought it back up. Initially I though it was the ISP’s problem, but after hours of trial and error I found the problem to be with the Deco’s. We suspect the Deco firmware had just been upgraded.

When we disconnected the internet cable from either Deco 1 or Deco 2, internet would come back again. Plug the cable back in and internet would immediately go down again. So the result is that we can now only have one Deco hardwired, which is not what we want.

We have tried swapping all three units around. Location does not matter. Which device is hardwired second does not matter. Everything crashes when a second cable is connected.

All Deco devices have firmware version 1.4.2 Build 20200408 Rel. 73944. No upgrades have been available since this issue started.

As we can swap the units around the problem does not seem to be hardware related. Can you please provide the tool for a firmware downgrade, so we can try to get everything working again?

Bump. And in addition: the hardwired P7 now loses internet a few times a week. We need to take power off it, wait 20 seconds, put power back in and then everything works again.

I'll just keep posting additional information as I try to resolve this issue:

 

  • Tried factory resetting my ISP's Zyxel modem
  • Tried factory resetting the entire Deco system
  • Connected a D-Link DGS-105 switch to a port on the Zyxel and connected all my in-house cables, so everything goes through one port
  • Tried disabling DHCP on the Zyxel and running the Deco as router.

 

None of this has helped. Whenever I plug hardwire two Deco P7 units everything crashes. 

 

I am wondering if it is creating a network loop somehow, but I don't see how. Can the powerline backhaul somehow create this loop?

So, in a further effort to sort out this problem I have now tried the following:

 

  • Purchased a Netgear GC110 switch in the hope that a smarter switch will tell me more about what is happening. When I hook P7 #2 to this siwtch everything stays green (yay), but further investigation shows that it is still only connected via Wifi and powerline backhaul. The cable is not actually doing anything (tried multiple cables that work in other situations). When I turn off IGMP snooping on the GC110 everything immediately crashes.
     
  • Connected P7 #2 directly to P7 #1 (the master) with a cable. Everything stays green and works (yay)! The Deco app also shows P7 #2 is connected via cable. In itself good news, as it shows that it can work. But in our situation it is quite impossible to connect the first floor P7 to the ground floor P7 via cable.
     
  • Connected two P7 units directly to two ports on the Zyxel VMG8825-T50. Everything crashes and even the Zyxel and glass fiber box require a firm reboot. This happens with different cables.

 

I really am kind of at the end of my tether here.
