@ASCII That is only a tar archive, not a .deb package. Previous versions have always been released in both tar archive and .deb package formats so that the package can be managed by modern linux package management tools.
Here is the example from version 4.1.5

Dear @matt25,
Is it planned to release a .deb package for the Linux controller version 4.2.4?
I'm afraid that the Linux controller version 4.2.4 only release tar.gz achieve. As far as I know, the reason is to avoid losing the configuration and facilitate modification for subsequent releases. If the .deb package is released for Linux controller v4.2.4, the subsequent versions would keep losing configuration after update. So there is no .deb package available for the Linux controller v4.2.4. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Dear @ASCII,
While at it, could the following please be fixed:
Operating System: Win2000/XP/2003/Vista/7/8/8.1/10/Mac/LinuxIt says that for both the Windows and the Linux tarball and is obviously not correct (the windows zip file only contains an .exe)
Thank you for your valued feedback! I've forwarded this to the website administrator who has corrected this information.

@Fae Thanks for the reply. May I make a suggestion that this kind of information be added to the release notes so that customers are aware of this without having to ask in the forums?

Welcome and thank you for your valued suggestion. I would forward this to the firmware team for consideration, though the release notes rarely tell such info from the TP-Link official website. Thank you!
