plugged my new m5 mesh system into existing zyxcel router. all works well except devices keep reverting to the zyxcel network and i have to manually switch them back to m5

You need to turn off WiFi on your ZyXel router. If this is not possible for some reason, change WiFi SSID on router to something different, and devices will stop connecting to router because they would not know its new WiFi network name.
