30/30/30 reset is another way of saying "hard reset"

As I was experiencing the same problems the beta firmware solved the disconnects for me.
Now it's running quite stable. Hope there will be an official update soon.

Hi I have installed the beta version of the firmware but I keep voting the connection

Can you please elaborate "voting the connection"? I don't really understand what that means.

Thanks to darkinners, your recommendation to flash the beta firmware has helped make my WDR4900 function more smoothly.

Currently on 100 Mbps fibre broadband connection but getting only about 45 Mbps wirelessly. Grateful if anybody could advise if tweaking the following would help increase the wireless speed :

(a) enabling Bandwidth Control Settings; and
(b) switching from the internet service provider's default DNS to Google or Open DNS

NP man, I didn't write the firmware nor I don't work in for TP-Link but I just got the firmware from the guys who work in there. I tested it out and solved the problems, thought I'd share with you guys ;)

My WDR4900 running both bands at 450mbps (total 900 mbps) no problems. I tested it on my Retina macbook pro.
Did you test the Wi-Fi speed in close range first?
Because some device will down grade the connection speed to 300 or even 7mpbs if the signal is not strong enough.

No, change DNS or enable bandwidth control won't increase the mbps of Wi-Fi.

I'll try this firmware maybe this weekend. Also my old WRT160N had the same wifi range... that's a bit strange i think!

I have wooden beam ceilings, just a few stone walls and still wifi reception is average. With these 4 mega antenna's i assumed i'd have coverage of a square km ;-)
I can set both bands to the same SSID and password, correct? Is there anything else i can do to extend my range?

I found WDR4900 Wi-Fi signal is average to above average at best.
2.4Ghz band is better even it's internal antenna.
If you use your Wi-Fi through concrete walls, I think 2.4Ghz is better than 5Ghz
Especially WDR4900 run both 2.4G and 5G at the same speed(450mbps)

You can set both bands with the same SSID and password but I don't think this is a good idea.
As it might be quite confusing if you want to check which band you are connecting to.

I would set them differently, like xxxxxxx_2.4G and xxxxxxx_5G

It's still rather unstable with this BETA firmware, so I might want to do this 30/30/30 reset, but I have no clue what you mean by that.
Could you please explain that, and also confirm if there is another firmware update coming up soon? This is stressing me out. Skype calls that drop often and random drops in online games.. :(

Thanks.

Did you restore your previous config backup after firmware update?
If you did, I strongly advise you to reflash and and afterwards DO NOT restore the backup config from older firmware.
It's always not advisable to restore the config file created from different firmware. It often induce unexpected problems.

So, write down your current config on a paper or do screen captures.
30/30/30 reset your router.
flash the beta firmware
do a 30/30/30 reset again.
manually input back your config in your router admin page again.

about 30/30/30 reset. You can always google it. It's not hard.
By the way. I will make your life easier.

1. hold the reset button for EXACTLY 30 seconds (the reset button is at the back of your router)
2. keep holding the reset button and unplug your router (by pull out the power cord at the back of the router) and wait for exactly 30 seconds.
3. still keep holding the reset button and plug the power cord back in the the router for another 30 seconds.

Viola! You've done the 30/30/30 reset.

My router has been updated to the BETA firmware for 16days+11hours without a reboot, still stable of regular BT downloads, HTTPS RDP servicing and web browsing, etc. Only one thing that the 2.4GHz Wifi disconnected suddenly this morning but reconnect immediately.
Wish the firmware keeps on stable until the release version and thanks to darkinners :D

Installing the beta firmware still couldn't fix my internet, after 1 day of using, from 60++mbps, it dropped all the way to 5mbps with very insane ping.

Hello
I found a new firmware for TL-WDR4900:
wdr4900nv1_en_3_14_3_up_boot(130320).bin
here : http://everbest.ftpserver.biz/TP-Link/FW/wdr4900nv1_en_3_14_3_up_boot(130320).bin

Who has tried it? Why the word "BOOT"?

I actually with the beta firmware 3.14.1(130304).

Thank you for your answers.

Edit : on the fist firmware "boot" is present, i try this today.

This probably means that you have not done 30/30/30, before and after installation. In this situation, hardly update is complete.
