Model: TL-WA850RE
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version: 1.0.1 Build 200514 Rel.65715n (6985)

Hi everyone,

I successfully managed to set up my TL-WA850RE as an access point, connected to the router via LAN and main wi-fi router is off.

The problem is the internet speed is around 25-30 mbps. My internet subscription is for 1000 mbps and when I connect the same LAN cable to the computer I reach 700-800 mbps. I was hoping the TL-WA850RE connected via LAN would transfer closer to the 300mbps advertised speed.

Are there any settings I can adjust to increase the speed or this is the max access point mode can produce?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Brian

@sweden84 What band are you measuring your internet speeds and how?  As a baseline you want want to plug in the ethernet cable into a laptop or other device so you can measure what speed you are getting from the cable.  If you're getting good speeds from ethernet, then I suspect that either there's a configuration issue with your wireless settings (check you cjhannel width), you are having interference on the channel you are using or the device you are using to measure does not have a good wireless network adapter.  For instance I can never achieve trop speeds running speed check from my phone.  A laptop with the latest network adapters are more reliable to measure wifi performance.

@Tailspin thanks! When I connect the cable to a laptop I easily reach 600+mbps. How can I configure my channel width? Thanks again for your help!

Assuming you are in Access-Point mode, if you go to Wireless Settings you should see a page where you enable/disable each band (2,4 and 5) and for each you specify the security, mode, channel and channel width. To ensure that you are connecting using the fastest 802.11 protocol you would set :"802.11n only" for 2.4 and "802.11ac only" for 5G. I use 40Mhz width on 2.4 and 80Mhz on 5 but you can play around to see what works best for you. If you have a wifi analyzer app you can see what channel your neighbors are using and pick one among those that are least congested. This is typically only an issue with 2.4Ghz band. You will get the fastest speed on the 5Ghz band but that signal does not perform well through walls. You should be able to get 80Mbs+ speeds on 2.4 band and 350Mbs+ on 5G if your device is right next to the AP.

Ok I just reviewed the specs of the WA850RE (I have a RE650). The eternet port on that model is 10/100 so it will max out at \a 100Mbs. You should buy an extender that has a gigabit ethernet port.
