TL-WR740N - mail settings problem
TL-WR740N - mail settings problem
2013-02-17 23:01:31
Region : Hungary

Model : TL-WR740N

Hardware Version : V4

Firmware Version : 3.12.11 Build 120320 Rel.51047n

ISP : digi.hu

At System Tools -> System Log -> Mail Settings

I could not give specific SMTP server port. On port 25 I can use only my ISP's SMTP server. If I'm using smtp.myserver.tld:587 auth with my e-mail and password I'm getting "Fail to Connect the mail server." warning and no mail being sent. If I'm using my ISP's SMTP server smtp.myisp.tld without authentication I' m getting "wrong mail address" errors and if I'm using my ISP's SMTP server smtp.myisp.tld with authentication, I'm getting "Wrong user name or wrong password of mail account" error (but the user name and password are correct and same that in my mail client).

In the log:
Feb 17 15:46:39 OTHER WARNING Fail to Connect the mail server.
Feb 17 15:45:58 OTHER WARNING Fail to Connect the mail server.
Feb 17 15:09:38 OTHER ERROR Wrong user name or wrong password of mail account.
Feb 17 15:07:54 OTHER ERROR Wrong user name or wrong password of mail account.
Feb 17 15:05:14 OTHER WARNING Fail to Connect the mail server.
Feb 17 15:02:53 OTHER ERROR wrong mail address.
Feb 17 14:58:39 OTHER ERROR wrong mail address.
Feb 17 03:00:24 OTHER ERROR wrong mail address.

Can anybody reproduce this?

The problem could be SMTP server port. The router can not define the SMPT server port and it only use the port number 25 to send the system log.If your ISP's e-mail snpt server is 578, i do not think this can wor on the router. Try to use the simple e-mail to sent systemlog to your mailbox.

Why use the ISP's mail server at all? Set up your own email server on any computer on your network - there are dozens of free email servers you could use - and send your logs there. Remember to set authentication, permissions and limits, or someone will use your email server to send out spam. I'm assuming the router supports the use of an SMTP server on the LAN side.

Been a while since I did any of this stuff, so my info might be a bit dated. Anyway, it is another avenue for you to explore.

If I'm using my ISP's SMTP server on port 25 with authentication, I get "OTHER ERROR Wrong user name or wrong password of mail account." error, but the user name and password are correct (same using in my mail program)!

Because it isn't in my focus and with a TL-WR1043ND it's working. How many energy to use a standalone machine for a local mail server...?

I set the ISP's SMTP server (named: smtp.hdsnet.hu /probed with authentication, but after saving mail settings, the password field truncated to six characters (or not saved?), but my password is 8 character long./) and I get "Feb 24 12:08:03 OTHER ERROR Wrong user name or wrong password of mail account." error.
Without authentication I get the following error: "Feb 24 12:01:22 OTHER ERROR wrong mail address." Recipient address is: username@gmail.com .

It's working on port 25 with e-mail programs. I think this is a router problem... Anybody probed this mail function?

I have the same problem of you....

the password field truncated to six characters (or not saved?), but my password is 8 character long.

My router is 1043ND v1.

I face the same problem.

I have tried using a lot of free smtp server(such as google, yahoo), but the router still doesn't work. It said "Fail to Connect the mail server"

I have the same problem, always get
smtp: Connect to host
smtp: Creating SSL connection to host receive from server timed out
smtp: smtp: (NONE) ................SMTP Test Failed

When I try and test the STMP setup with gmail (all settings and DNS are correct).

It's the @ sign in the username!

I also ran into trouble with this 300M Wireless N Router Model No. TL-WR941ND.
I looked very careful in the manual and it says:

"User Name - Your mail account name filled in the From field. The part behind @ is excluded." <-- and here is probably the problem.

I have only accounts were I need to put the whole e-mail address as my login name but TP-Link says they are excluding the part behind the "@" sign. Where can we address this problem?
