My C4000 A20 Wifi router suddenly slows down with all WiFi clients
Hello,
Please help me with this very weird and sudden turn of events.
I have a C4000 A20 (long range) WiFi router, purchased and installed Oct 20,2020.
It has functioned perfectly and reliably for over two months now, serving on average 10 smartphones/PCs/Laptops on a tyopical work day.
Recently I turned ON the Guest WiFi Network feature and created 2 SSIDs - one for 2.4G and another for 5G.
It was tested/tried once and worked. But in actual practice no one is using it yet.
Suddenly, ALL WiFi connections from existing client devices: cell phones and laptops, are experiencing rejections in Login, or if they manage to Login,
have weak/poor WiFi signals. No changes to the WiFi parameters have been made, other than the addition of the 2 Guest WiFis.
What I do notice though, is that I configured the 2 guest WiFis to have their SSID HIDDEN, whereas the main (i.e., non-guest) is NOT hidden.
Also, I DO NOT ALLOW guest users to access each other and DO NOT ALLOW guest users to acces my LAN.
These 2 parameters are explicitly request when configuring a Guest WiFi Network, but somehow I do not see them when configuring non-Guest.
Could this be the reason for a sudden slowdown and unreliable WiFi connection?
Any advice, tips or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
R. Tan

try setting the transmit power on the 5Ghz frequency to low and keep the 2.4Ghz on High. the 5Ghz frequency isn't used much on other devices except for mobile phones.
reason for this is HEAT and POWER. When you enabled the guest network it caused the A20 to throttle due to the additional task which made it produce more heat and required more power which again causes heat so hence the throttling, so you will get slow speeds or low signal.
set the 5Ghz transmit power to low and reboot and observe if its still throttling. make sure also to keep the A20 cool, by adding a cooling pad or if not by just wall mounting it so that the heat can be dissipated a bit better.
TP-Link has the same heat problem on the AX50 which i have.
i hope this helps.
