Can't acces internet
Can't acces internet
Bought this TP-Link router to extend Wifi range from main router.
I have connected it, following the quick guide, I renamed the same as main network (automated when connecting), blue LED comes on to indicate connected but devices can't connect. Wifi signal does hit the dead zone but I seem to have no IP address assigned (that is what my phone says) Laptop simply says can't connect and whden I look at connection properties there is no IP address
I wanted to check the tplinkwifi.net properties but now it is connected to main router I can't access with tplinkwifi.net web address. When I am connected to TPlink router without internet access, browser says can't find page.
I tried making an alternate name so I was sure which router I was connected to, but still no access to internet and no access to router through tplinkwifi.net address
Is there a setting somewhere to ensure we get the same number of IP addresses as with main router?
Is there something I am doing wrong in the setup?
Should I change this to being an access point, even though main router has got Wifi?
Can I operate the TP-link router under a different name to main router?
This is for home use and we don't have more than 15 devices
Thanks

WR940N has a dedicated range extender mode - I missed that from the very beginning (ignore the guides in my first post):
So resetting the device and following the Quick Setup should be enough to configure it as a Wireless Extender.
Your main router should preserve its original configuration since no changes needed there.

Thanks again for your reply.
Sadly I tried what you suggested and no joy.
As with my original post, I have connected the WR940N by initially setting it as you describe. But no access to internet and when connected to the WR940N it seems as if there was no IP address, same as my original posting as you see in the screen shots below.
The other problem is that I could not connect to the WR940N through tplinkwifi.net nor via IP address. So I had to reset and try again.
I have tried severla times same outcome, WR940N gets a blue LED light to show it is connected to root router but no internet.
I tried as well just using the quick guide that asks to set this as a range extender and I could set up a separate name for the WR940N.
As before blue LED comes on to indicate connected and before I lose connection the tplinkwifi.net control panel it is saying that it has set up. Then it reboots and I loose connection to the WR940N and no internet. As you can see from screen shot, no IP address assigned and I can't access the WR940N via tplinkwifi.net
What can I try next?

What is your main router and how far are they placed from each other ?
Make sure when configuring Range Extender mode the 940N is no more than 5 meters from the main router.
After successful configuration you can place it where you intended to, but observe the distance and the signal strength.
At the following step:
make sure that the IP address is set to Static IP and it's in the same subnet as the LAN IP address of the main router.
For example:
If the main router LAN IP address is : 192.168.1.1 then make the 940N LAN IP address 192.168.1.254.
If the main router LAN IP address is : 192.168.0.1 then make the 940N LAN IP address 192.168.0.254.
When device reboots after successful configuration, connect (with ethernet cable) via its LAN IP address - 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.0.254 according to what you've set in the previous step.
Upon successful configuration you should have internet access when connected to 940N wired or wirelessly.

My main router is a Microtik Router Board connected to a smaller box that the fibre cable enters, seems generic
I did try your suggestions and the 940N did connect to internet when the ethernet was connected to the main router.
I could not connect to laptop by ethernet as I don't have an ethernet port
However once I checked the IP address and disconnected ethernet I lost connection and no IP address and could not connect to the 940N through TPLinkwifi.net
So still not sure what has gone wrong.
Here are the Static IP settings for 940N and showing no IP when connected wireless
These are for the main router

The problem might be that you have 940n DHCP server disabled as per my instructions.
They are valid for configuring WDS feature, but with 940n might be different (it has a dedicated repeater mode).
With the same settings as discussed just enable the DHCP server on 940n and try again.
If still not working here's the official guide for 940n range extender mode - see if that helps.
