WDS - Can't access the extended router's (TP-Link Archer C6) management page
WDS - Can't access the extended router's (TP-Link Archer C6) management page
Hi there:
I have a ISP fiber router.
Archer C80 bridged with the fiber router (disabled fiber router wi-fi).
Bought a new Archer C6 to connect with WDS to Archer C80.
Main Router:
- Archer C80
- IP address 192.168.1.1
- DHCP on
- DHCP IP address pool 192.168.101 - 192.168.1.249
Extended Router:
- Archer C6
- IP address 192.168.1.5
- DHCP off
Setup the Archer C6 (extended router) with no DHCP (DHCP off), WDS to the Archer C80 (main router) wifi.
Setup a static ip address to Archer C6: 192.168.1.5
The main router's (C80) ip address is 192.168.1.1
I can get connection with the devices connected to the extended router (C6) and it works fine.
However, I can't access the router's management page.
I used Advanced IP Scanner to scan all the devices in my network but can't find the Archer C6.
Can't find it either in Network Map (Archer C80 main router's management page) or DHCP Client List.
Any idea?
Thanks and best regards.

If the C6 is with static IP address I believe this is normal.
Why don't you access the C6 by its IP address 192.168.1.5 via web browser ? Can you ping its IP address from the devices connected to C80 or C6 (wired or wireless) ?

Hi there, Ivaylo:
Thank you for your reply.
Can't access C6 via web browser. It's like there is no device with that IP address.
Can't ping the IP Address. No reply at all.
However, this PC I'm working on right now (as other network devices such as two NAS) are wired connected to the C6 and working fine..!
I have internet and LAN access to all the network devices, but can't connect or ping the C6 IP address.

Did you try to ping C6 from a device connected to C80 ?
That's rather strange behaviour - everything works, but no access to the extended router.
I would suggest that you have changed the web interface port of C6 if you didn't say that can't ping its IP address.
I see you have reported C6 FW version 1.3.8, do you mean 1.3.6 actually ?
The other thing you could do is to reboot C80 first and then C6 to see if that will fix this issue - the indication of a correct WDS connection is its status "RUN".

So, I just rebooted the C80 and then the C6.
Connected a laptop with ethernet cable in the C80 to ping the C6 (192.168.1.5, the IP address I configured the C6): no reply.
FW version: now I'm not able to confirm because I have no access to it, but maybe the 1.3.6. I now for sure it is 1.3.something.
Can't check the WDS status because I set it up on the C6 and... again, I have no access to it.

I see, that's unusual. Which band you use for WDS - 2.4 GHz or 5 GHZ ?
Do you have for WDS mode these options:

If I remember well, I choose the 5GHZ band. However, I did read somewhere that it's the same to choose the 2.4 or 5 band.
I don't remember seeing the WDS mode in the C6 configurations. Now I can't check.
Maybe I'll reset the C6 and setup the WDS again.
Can you tell me the difference between the WDS1 and WDS2?

Check this thread if you have enabled WDS via 5 GHz band.
If the issue persists try to configure WDS via 2.4 GHz band and test again.

It gets stranger.
Regain control of C6.
I can now access via web browser both C80 and C6.
However, trying to setup the time settings to my time zone, the router cannot retrieve the correct date. So I went to the FW update page to check for new FW and it says that it doesn't have internet connection.
