Bandwidth slow down when router plugged in

Region : Canada
Model : TL-WDR4300
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 3.13.17 Build 120426 Rel.29216n
ISP : Bell Canada
Hello,
Just had my line upgraded to 50mbit down, and 10mbit up. Whenever the router is between the PC and the modem, my speeds drop to 30mbit. If i plug directly into the modem, I get the full 50Mbit. Upload speeds are always 10mbit.
I've tried power cycling devices, and even replaced all cables with cat6 (which I know isn't the issue, but i'm just trying to eliminate everything).
Any idea on what else could be wrong?
thanks

Several causes/solutions :
- Upgrade your firmware to at least 120810 version; i saw some messages that the 121225 version has some issues (search a bit in the forum):
http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/?model=TL-WDR4300&version=V1#tbl_j
- Is your modem also a router? Then you have double security functions. Put (or let your ISP put) it in bridge mode, then the router gets an IP of your ISP and all security functions of the modem are bypassed and are in the router.
- If you want to keep the modem as a router, switch off the firewall/wireless of the modem and fix the IP of the router in your modem (this is my config at the moment, going to switch to bridge mode shortly - cisco ep3925 modem with wdr3600).
I have a 60/6 Mbit connection without significant loss of speed.

Thanks forgot to mention that yes it's already in bridge mode, and i'm starting to think it may be something in the modem itself, because i tried my old linksys with dd-wrt and it was doing the same thing, only 30mbit while full 50mbit without a router.
I will take the time to upgrade my fw however, thanks for the pointer.

Ok, so no problem over bridge mode then.
There were significant problems with the hardware NAT of the WDR4300 and they should be solved with the firmware updates (only 10 minutes of work).
Success, hope you find it. Hugo

Wow thanks for the idea. Here's what i had to do.
I had 2 devices that plugged into my modem, and would get seperate WAN IP's. 1 would be my router, and everything on my home LAN, the other is a device for my work that gives me a VPN and a VOIP phone from home.
both my router and work device would have PPPOE settings in them, and the modem would work in bridge mode, and both would establish PPPOE themselves as opposed to through the modem.
What i've now done, i've left the work device as-is. My router, I changed from PPPOE to auto, then i setup my modem with DMZ and point to the IP address it gave my router.
Boom, everything works now, as designed, and i'm getting full speed.
Thanks again

slim94,
Sorry i forgot to mention the DMZ; i did it too. Don't forget to reserve the IP-address of your router in DHCP. of your modem, then you're always good!
