Model: RE200
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: re200v3_eu-up-ver1-1-2-P1[20201030-rel39260]

Hello

I'm using the RE200 v3 using the latest firmware https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202011/20201120/RE200_V3_201030.zip (re200v3_eu-up-ver1-1-2-P1[20201030-rel39260])

but I have these problems every day:

1) The unit disconnects from the main router/dhcp server while in extender mode. there's no problem setting up the connection and addresses (static management IP, DNS, gateway, SSID, etc), but it never lasts more than a few hours. there's no problem with channels, or signal quality, to make myself clear, the setup is OK.

2) The clients get 'no internet access', meaning only local network connectivity

3) The unit stops the httpd daemon for the management page, or maybe changes the IP to something else, because at the same time this happens, the management page is unreachable through the static IP that I assigned it. I've tried the local hostname tplinkrepeatersomething to access the admin page, but the outcome is the same. the management page is down.

4) The firmware upgrade sometimes report 'cannot connect to cloud', so when this happens I switch back and forth the DNS IP from the ones supplied by my ISP to cloudflare's. Sometimes it successfully checks updates with my DNS's and sometimes with 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

The only solution is to unplug the repeater and plug it again. then it starts to work as intended, but again after a few hours the problem returns. Also, and quite interesting, there are no errors in the system log. edit: almost forgot, as a makeshift solution also tried using the power schedule to simulate a reboot 3 times every day, but the problem persists.

I'm a new member of this forum and I read several posts with similar problems, but with no solution other than 'return it'. Sadly I'm way past any warranty, so I'm stuck with an unusable piece of networking equipment.

Any advice? thoughts? any experimental or homebrew firmware? is this product really fubar?

@re200bad

Hi,  we will try our best to help~

Please make sure extender have a different SSID/ Wi-Fi name from main router.

1 > If  2.4Ghz and 5Ghz lights are still " On" when RE lost Internet , please try manually set up the DHCP Server on RE as the photo attached and observe the performance.

2> If 2.4Ghz/5Ghz Led goes "OFF" when RE lost Internet, please put RE in the same room from router, and check its stability.

If same issue occurs, when issue happens again, please connect to RE's wifi and check its IP address & gateway address and send to us.

Please let us know the model of your router, thank you.

@Solla-topee

First of all, thank you for taking the time and replying.

Using a different SSID is not useful in this case, the users of this network are accustomed to connect to a single known SSID and roam the premises, not switching to a secondary/backup SSID when moving to another place.

Currently I'm using a D-Link DAP-1325 (which only relays DHCP information and has no DHCP server capabilities) in place of the RE200, extending an existing 2.4Ghz WLAN with absolutely no problems when roaming between the main router and the extender, and assigning dynamic DHCP addresses from a simple /24 subnet pool located in the main router.

The router is a MitraStar GPT-2541GNAC for what is worth mentioning.

¿Why this product fails so much in something so basic even when the DHCP server is turned off in the extender?

Even though I sincerly thank your troubleshooting steps, this is clearly a Firmware problem and TP-LINK is not taking responsability.

@re200bad Good day,

Sorry for the delayed reply. If RE's Led are still ON when RE's SSID got no Internet, I suggested turning on DHCP server on RE and set up DHCP settings manually as the photo attached in my last reply. For your  the question you have raised, we'd like to follow up your case via email to analyze the issue, please check your inbox later, thank you!

@Solla-topee

After some emails back and forth with tp-link support, got this beta firmware (FOR RE200 V3):

https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201912/20191203/re200v3_eu-up-ver1-1-1-P1[20191127-rel47933].zip

I tested with DHCP server in automatic mode, and it works.

Leaving this for future references (if the mods allow to post links), so it can help someone else.

bye
