Hi,

I have a ADSL Modem WiFi Router (by D-Link) with a low wireless signal and I wanted to get it stronger.
This device has a WiFi with fixed channel (ch 6) and no wireless protection (no WEP, no WPA...).
It has an IP address set to 192.168.1.1 and runs a DHCP server that assigns IPs from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.100

I've just bought a TL-WA730RE v2 for the purpose of getting a stronger wireless signal of the device described above.

I've tried every single way to make it work:
- Pushing the black button on its back;
- Using the wizard setup on the CD;
- Manually configuring the settings with an ethernet cable and connected to 192.168.0.254. I've tried every option: Wireless Repeater and WDS, with and without DHCP for both.
With every method described above the Status page on the TL-WA730RE v2 shows a succesful connection to the D-Link WiFi (and till here it's all good).
I have 4 wireless clients to connect: 3 smartphones and 1 pc. They detect the new strong WiFi signal and can get an IP address (range 192.168.1.x).

The problem I've found is:
Randomly my 4 wireless clients can access the Internet via TL-WA730RE v2.
I said randomly because sometimes 1 client accesses the Internet and the other 3 clients don't.
If I restore the factory settings and try again, I get another client (or sometimes 2 clients of the 4) working and not the others.
If I try a 3rd time, with a reset, I might get a not-working client while this was working before or viceversa.
A valid IP address seem correctly assigned to ALL the clients though! It's in the range 192.168.1.x (so, the D-Link Wifi addresses).
The clients that don't access the Internet can't PING succesfully any IP address (local or Internet).

Have I got a faulty device?

Another problem I've experienced: the TIME settings get reset to the factory settings every time I turn off the device (or I unplug the device from the power supply). Is it normal?

your Dlink is 192.168.1.1 your 730RE has to be 192.168.1.254
If not change your 730 Network Lan to same sub-net as the Dlink

I'm not sure if I had already tried that setting but, anyway, how can it be possible that, leaving the "wrong" setting, the Internet connection is working randomly on a device or on another (or another 2)? If I had only 1 or 2 PCs to connect I would say the 730RE is working but "fortunately" I have many devices to connect!

EDIT: I forgot also to say: both are in the same subnet 255.255.255.0

you're right. I said "wrong" setting: It's expected to don't work at all then.

a "random" setting (that doesn't make sense) would bring to a random behaviour instead (that's what is happening).

I'll try to change the IP to x.x.1.x and check again. Thanks

once you change network lan to 192.168.1.254 if no luck, i advice you to add WPA security to your Dlink if possible, with WEP security 730 Ver 2 will give you issues.
once you have all devices connected, enable ping watch dog and unplug from wall your RE once a week for one minute, only way to work flawless with this RE

Thank you for your help but I'll probably skip the test with those settings as I need a more reliable and adaptable device.
The TIME setting is also something I really need to work flawlessly even after a power loss of a few seconds.

I'll opt for a refund with the online store where I bought the product and will buy a more expensive one (I can do it with no additional cost within 10 days from the date of the purchase).
