Hi,
My device operates in "Wireless AP / Wireless Repeater" mode.
Under "Wireless Settings", I can see the "Local SSID:" field.
No matter what I fill it with, it is not aired out as a separate SSID.
SSID of Root-AP is the only SSID aired out by my device.
Both "Enable Wireless Radio" and "Enable SSID Broadcast" are switched on.
Can any one kindly explain to me what the purpose of this "Local SSID" setting is?
At times, I'd like to control with my WLAN client devices which device they have connected with - hence my interest in differentiating the Root-AP's SSID and Repeater's SSID.
BTW, I'd like to know what DHCP settings work best for you: I've been experimenting with 1 - DHCP on Root-AP only and 2 - DHCP on both Root and Repeater for higher availability.

As far as i know, there are two operation modes, AP client router and AP router, on the WR743ND. How comes repeater mode?
I suspect you gave the wrong model number. Is it TL-WR702N or sth else?
In AP client router mode, the WR743 works as a client to connect to the source network, which can be done by the search button; meanwhile, you can configure your own separate SSID, seeing the following picture:
