Deco M5 not working with P7
Deco M5 not working with P7
Hi everybody,
I have three Deco P7. One P7 is the main Deco. All working in Router mode. I now bought a Deco M5 to extend my Wi-Fi range. I added the M5 to my network using the Deco App. M5 is recognized and added.
But my devices do not connect to the M5 even if I am standing directly next to it. Tried everything in AP mode but with the same result.
What is it that I am not seeing?
Thanks for your help

Right. This sometimes happen with old firmware, instead of useful information it just says something like "Deco is functioning OK' and it'll keep saying that until you have device connected to it. Which you can't. :(
Sometimes, opening same page with Deco node, Dr in you case, again and again few times finally forces Deco app to show information. Perhaps, restart of smartphone could help. Please try few times and see if it works, meanwhile I'll write another reply telling what to check in WiFi analyzer.

Take your smartphone to where you M5 is, and stay close to M5. Turn off and on WiFi on smartphone or just restart it.
After that. In WiFi Analyzer, open "Wireless" screen from the icon on the bottom of main screen. You should see list of WiFi networks your smartphone sees, example:
If your M5 properly broadcasts signal, your network name will be on top as it is strongest signal, and with two channels listed. One will be for 2.4GHz and one for 5GHz. Please make screenshot of that screen and share it. If you can't find your WiFi SSID on it - something is wrong. If it is not on the top, it could mean M5 does not broadcast WiFi signal, and what you see is one of your P7 that are further away.
Touch that your network SSID and next screen will open, example:
It will list same "Pretty fly for a Wifi" SSID and very important, Security of that network. It should be WPA2-PSK, if you see something else that could be a problem. Please make screenshot of that and share it here, too.

With the Results I get it seems like M5 does not work wirelessly.

Yes, if you can't see M5 in WiFi analyzer, that would explain why devices won't connect to it.
If you want to, you could give it one last try and see if you can install firmware 1.6 beta for M5. Nothing to lose by installing beta code, and if it installs you may be able to get more useful information from that node in Deco app. Here is link: [New Firmware] Deco M5 1.6.0
If that does not work either, it looks like you will have to return M5. Still, time was not lost: you gained useful information on Deco mesh (and WiFi mesh in general) troubleshooting.
Keep WiFi analyzer app: it may show you dead or weak spots in your home WiFi coverage. Just walk to the place where mobile devices experience issues with your home network WiFi such as signal drops or slow Internet, turn WiFi off/on on smartphone to get fresh reading and check WiFi analyzer. If you don't see in it WiFi nodes with good signal at that location, it means you've got to rearrange your nodes for better coverage of that spot.

I tried to install Beta firmware before. Unfortunately did not work like all the other versions did not either. Thank you very much for your time and effort.
I'm gonna return the M5.
