Model: Archer AX11000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.3 Build 20210719 rel.14861(4555)

Hi

I currently have my Archer AX11000 router connected to my ISPs VDSL provided router, and setup as Access Point Mode.  All devices in my house connect wired or wireless to my AX11000, either with static IP or DHCP server on AX11000,  my ISP Router just connects to internet and handles my VoIP.  Only reason I kept my ISP router was to avoid having to configure AX1100 to work with my ISP and VoIP, so left it to manage my connection to internet, and AX11000 handles everything else.

Basically, my configuration is:

Internet ====== ISP Router & VoIP (internal IP 192.168.2.1) ====== AX11000 (internal IP 192.168.2.3) ====== Home Devices (Static or DCHP IPs 192.168.2.x with Gateway 192.168.2.1)

I wish to take advantage of other configuration options available on AX11000 in Wireless Router Mode, just worried if I switch mode then I will have to reconfigure my routers from scratch.

So my question is, will AX1100 still work as my primary Access router for my home network, managing DCHP assignments to my devices, and still leave my ISP router to manage my internet and VoIP connection?  Will the switch too Wireless Router Mode require any specific configuration on either ISP router or AX11000?

Thanks in advance

Yes, it will continue to work as your primary router for your home network but you'll introduce a double NAT in your network.

Double NAT is not necessary a bad thing, but avoiding it is recommended. You may set AX11000 in router mode and see if this suits your needs.

It would make more sense if you can set your ISP router in bridge mode - check this story for details.

This way you'll avoid the double NAT and use AX11000 full potential as a primary router. Configuring your VoIP in this scenario may be tricky though.

@terziyski

Thanks for the information, I was thinking about double NAT possible issue.  I have a guide from other users with same ISP router who have changed it to bridge mode and how to get Voip working after the change.

Will take full backup of both routers and move forward with changes.

If I do run into problems will come back for more support.
