I test 5 GHz with my notebook in front of the TP-Link with disabled encryption. The connection doesn't work. First, I'm able to connect, but after some secons I lost the connection. After the lost, I cannot connect again.

OK, in this case I think your router defective.
I suggest you to replace it by another or a WDR4900 probably more reliable with 5GHz...

Thanks for your support. But why is the WDR4900 more reliable as the Archer C7?

Because I have it and the wifi works well... :)

The main hardware differences:

Archer C7 -> CPU Qualcomm Atheros QCA9558@720MHz 128Mo/8Mo

WDR4900 -> CPU Freescale P1014@800MHz 128Mo/16Mo

Then maybe the following router a better :D

ASUS RT-AC66U -> CPU Broadcom BCM4706@(600MHz?) / 256 MB RAM / 128 MB Flash

TP-Link hardware is good but firmware is crappy...

Oki, therefore I can try to use DD-WRT, if the original firmware isn't good. Bit first, I send the router back and test the new router. Then I can decide, if i buy another router when I get the same problems or flash DD-WRT.

DD-WRT exists for WDR4900 but not yet for ARCHER C7...

Hi,

I sent the Archer C7 back and install temporary again the "Fritz N/G Repeater". At the same place (outside the window, on the windows sill) a get 4 balks of 5 and get 108Mbit. If I take the Repeater inside the appartment to the cupboard, I get 1 balk with approximately 5 - 26 Mbit.
It'is better than the Archer C7. Now I have to reflect, which new router/repeater I buy.

The best way I think is to buy a router/access point near Fritzbox 7390 with beam antenna and a router/bridge/repeater on the appartment with external antennas outside :-)

Hello Forum,

I have a little problem with my Archer C7. I would like to connect the Archer C7 with my Fritzbox 7390 (192.168.178.1) via WDS Brideging.

I set under Network > LAN following IP: 192.168.178.3 and disable DHCP.

WDS Bridge with Fritz 7390 works well with 2.4 GHz Wireless. I put a manual channel 9 and standard b+g. I’m able to connect with the TP-Link_2.4GhZ-Wireless and connect to 192.168.178.1.

But, if I disable Birdge for 2.4 GHz and use 5 GHz with WDS Bridge, the connection doesn’t work. If I use the button “survey” I see the 5 GHz Fritzbox. Furthermore if I connect with TP-Link_5GHz, the connection doesn’t work well, when I connect to 192.168.178.3. I get often abruptions or the connection to TP-Link_5GHz doesn’t work every time. In TP-Link5GHz and Fritz 7390 a define the manual channel 48 and Standard a+n

What could be the problem?

I can also report that the WDS function does NOT work on 5 GHz when connecting to a Asus RC-AC66U router, irrespective of distance. I already contact TP-Link support about this issue, and if no reply, I probably return the unit. I connected on the 2.4 GHz fine so it is just the 5 GHz that does not work.
