Model: Deco E4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi all, hoping someone can help me. If I connect my phone to my modem's wifi (Optus 5g Nokia modem), I'd get 300mbps of speed. This is the modem's normal speed. However, if I connect an ethernet Cat 7 cable from the modem to one of the tp-link ac1200 Deco E4 wifi system, and then connect my phone to this system, I'd only get 100mbps. I've tested the cat 7 cable's speed by connecting the modem directly to the computer with this cable, and I get 300mbps. It's just the tp-link wifi mesh that isn't transmitting the full speed. Does anyone know why is this?  Thanks!

Deco E4 comes with 100Mbps Ethernet ports. 100Mbps is the maximum Internet speed you could get if your Main Deco is E4.

Thank you Alexandre! Do you know if there is any TP Link wifi mesh that fully supports 300mbps (including the ethernet port)?

Deco E4 is the only exception: any other Deco model with Ethernet ports is gigabit or better.

I would suggest Deco M4 or S4, both look very similar to E4, but they are with gigabit Ethernet ports. Expect Satellite deliver about half WiFi speed Main Deco does.

Another option is Deco M9 Plus, it is usually a bit more expensive and it is different form factor. It is tri-band system, which means its Satellites can deliver better WiFi speeds than comparable two-band models such as M4 and S4. I had M9 Plus with my 300Mbps Internet, the Internet link was maxed up in my speed tests with Satellite M9 Plus.

Thank you for the advice Alexandre! I'll look into getting the M4 or S4.

Not entirely true. The W2400 is also a Deco model with ethernet ports that are only 100 MB/s max

Thanks for correcting me. I learned something new about Deco today.

  @Alexandre.

Happy to share any helpful information. I wish I knew half of the things about all of this that I'm sure you do. :)

I'm not 100% certain about this but I believe the Deco E4 and the Deco W2400 models are more or less the same thing hardware-wise. They have the same case and look identical from the outside. I believe the only difference is that the "W" line of products were exclusively made to be sold at Walmart hence the different model name but I believe it's the same thing as the E4 but I'm not completely certain of this. I initially purchased the W2400 model which of course is advertised as an "AC1200" system - and it is - but there's no way to take advantage of faster data transfer speeds beyond 100 MB/s if only using the W2400 (or E4) hardware by itself in your Deco mesh network setup. It is possible however to buy it an additional Deco unit that has a gigabit Ethernet port and to use that additional unit as your base unit and then set the W2400s (or E4s) as your satellite Deco units in your mesh network and then you are indeed able to take advantage of the AC1200 transmission speed capabilities of the W2400/E4 units. I purchased an additional "1-pack" M5 unit and when I added it to my existing W2400 network the Deco app was even smart enough to provide a message suggesting I use the M5 as my base unit as it had more advanced features and better speed capabilities. It's only been a few days but my network seems to be working well overall, though I do have a couple of problems but I'll start a new thread for these issues if I'm not able to get help from tp-link support on the phone.
