Can Deco M4 be used as main unit to get 500 Mbps bandwidth?
Can Deco M4 be used as main unit to get 500 Mbps bandwidth?
Hi,
If I add Deco M4 as the main unit connected to my broadband router via ethernet and use 3 other Deco E4 as satellite units, can I get 500 Mbps speed across my home? I have 500 Mbps internet connection. In my current set up of 3 Deco E4, I am not getting more than 40 Mbps in the satellite units. Even when I go near the main E4 unit, I am getting only 70-80 Mbps. This is pathetic.
Hence, I have bought one Deco M4, which I intend to use as the main unit and connect the other 3 Deco E4 units as satellite to enjoy 500 Mbps across my home. Will I get 500 Mbps with this set up? Pls confirm. Thanks.

@CoreAI Thanks a lot for your response. It helps...
In such case, hope I can expect at least 200 to 250 Mbps on satellite E4 nodes, when I use M4 as the main unit connected to my Archer C4000 router :-)
Kindly confirm.

@ArunP I bought a Deco M4 and connected 3 E4 Satellites. As said earlier, I have a 500 Mbps broadband. I was getting upto 400 Mbps on M4 when I am close to it. So, I was expecting E4 to give a throughput of at least 200 Mbps, if not more.
I live in a 2 storey building and my Archer C4000, which is in the 2nd floor gives me a throughput of 20 Mbps when checked from ground floor, the same place from where I am checking the WiFi throughput from Deco network.
I am just getting 20 Mbps and I deeply annoyed. My current Archer C4000 is much better when compared to this stupid Deco setup. I have spent around 12K on this hopeless Deco setup and I regret the same now.
All tall claims by TPLink. I had high regards on TPLink and have lost all my trust this company now.

@ArunP Since you already have a router (Archer C4000), use the E4s in access point mode. You should get at least 200-250 mbps on Wifi (make sure 5 Ghz is turned on).
The M4 will probably not be needed.
The only difference between Deco E4 & M4 is that the LAN ports on E4 are 100 Mbps, wheras on M4 they are 1 Gbps.
The wifi capability of both models are the same.

@ArunP Hi Imtiaz. Thanks a lot for your response. I have 5Ghz turned on in Archer C4000. I am getting around 400 Mbps on M4 when I am close to it. However, the E4 Satellites which are placed around my home, as suggested in the Deco App dont scale up beyond 35-40 Mbps. I have changed the network to AP mode. Still the same issue. Not sure where the problem is :-(
Thanks.

Please share Show List and Show Map screenshots from your Deco app, that will help to understand if Satellites are properly placed.

Your Satellites are properly placed and get good signal from Main Deco.
I have a question: you wrote "I bought a Deco M4 and connected 3 E4 Satellites" - the total number of Deco units should be four in screenshots you provided. It is three.
Do you still have M4 as Main Deco? This is a must for faster speeds.
Also, general comments on speed testing for your home network:
1. Keep Deco mesh running in Access Point mode.
2. You must turn off Archer C4000 WiFi. Otherwise your wireless devices may connect to Archer C4000 and you will be measuring the wrong speeds.
3. Turn off 2.4GHz in Deco app. It is under Wi-Fi Settings/Advanced/Band. Change that to the following:
4. Before running speed test, turn WiFi on device you use for testing off and on. That will force device connect to the nearest Satellite Deco. Check in Deco app that device is connected to the nearest Satellite Deco and that it is connected to it by 5GHz.

@ArunP Hi Alexandre. Thanks a lot for your kind response.
Yes. I have got an M4 and it is configured as the main Deco and is sitting next to my Archer C4000. I am yet to configure my 3rd Deco E4 to the mesh. Will do it shortly.
I have configured in Access Point mode only. I am getting speeds of upto 45 Mbps on the Deco named "Ground Floor Hall" Is there any way to increase it to touch 100 Mbps, as I know E4 can scale upto 100 Mbps only.
How do I switch off the WiFi in my Archer C4000? Can you guide me on that? Thanks once again...

You will need to check router documentation or support forum to find how to turn off its WiFi: different routers do it differently. Some even have button on them to turn off WiFi: that is convenient.
If router does not allow to turn off WiFi, you can change its SSID to something different and do not configure your home devices to use it. In such a way you'll be sure they can only connect to Deco mesh. Still, it is better to turn off router WiFi, that will reduce interference.
