Hello community.
Well, since the TP-Link support is too lazy to answer me on simple questions thru e-mail, and are incapable to fix their firmwares, i decided to go for alternative one.
Now i m deciding between OpenWRT and DD-Wrt.. which is better ? i know there is also some gargoyle or something like that, but i dont want this one.

Hello,
My DD-WRT experience is only with Linksys routers.
I had a WRT54G and I still have an E3000 working very well with DD-WRT build 21061 without trouble on the USB port for storage or printer....
As my WR1043ND is no more used, I can't answer to your question but I can say that DD-WRT is very powerful...

gargoyle=openwrt, from my experience with gargoyle V1.5.4 on hardware V1.9 i can tell you that this firmware is very stable and working without any issues, wifi is stable more than the stock, the performance of USB is better, and i run this firmware almost one week after tp-link support doesn't answer me to mails, i thing something happen to tp-link company because they don't give me answers and don't help me to resolve issues, and in future i will looking for alternatives.

Does DD-WRT support USB-FTP feature ? i googled for differences between dd-wrt and openwrt and i found that dd-wrt has very nice detailed web configuration
while openwrt does have only some basic features thru web configuration and the rest features are set with the help of command line.

I have Gargoyle on my WDR4300 and I'm very happy with this firmware. Of course DD-WRT is also very good solution for WR1043ND.

this is something I am currently slugging through.
I have tried the latest DD-WRT build and it maxes out at 50mbps so Im not getting my full VirginMedia 120mbps. Also, Wifi keeps dropping out too which is annoying.
I have tried USB so cant comment on that, but I do know the QSS button doesnt work either.
I did try OpenWRT but the WAN port stopped working. There i a fix for this though now. However, at the time I was stuck with no WAN and its a real nightmare to return to stock firmware from OpenWRT, its not a simple matter of using the web gui, you have to know how to use command lines and all sorts of other techie stuff.
I am really unhappy with the stock firmware, its rubbish. DD-WRT on my old Dlink615 is a dream and I wish I could get an equally stable version for the 1043 as I would definitely use it.

Test Gargoyle, is based on openwrt:
From stock firmware:
1.-reset from back button (factory settings)
2.-Install germany firmware wr1043nv1_de_3_9_17_up_boot(100331) (to avoid problem wan)

Ok yeah I have heard of Gargoyle but havent tried it yet.
So going back to stock is as simple as using DD-WRT but I have to use the modified firmware on their page, and thats its yeah, simple?
