Chinese version vs rest of the world (TL-XAP5407GC-PoE/DC vs EAP670)

Model: EAP670
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.14

I recently purchased through AliExpress the Chinese version of TP-Link equivalent device to the EAP670.

I was expecting that the Chinese version TL-XAP5407GC-PoE/DC could be adopted by Omada, just like an EAP 670, but so far was unable to.

I have logged in into the web interface and with some help of Google translate, I tried to replace the software with EAP 670 V1 firmware, but it says it's an invalid file and won't proceed. I don't want to brick it so I didn't try other methods, in case I need to return it (which btw, will cost me a significant amount of $$).

1) Is there any other way I can get this device adopted by my Omada controller?

2) Could the recovery mode help on TFTP-ing the firmware to the device?

3) Is there any other way I can get this device to act as an EAP 670? Maybe some magic with the bin files that only Fae can manage?

4) Or should I just return it or give to someone who wants to use it as an Wifi 6 access point just like any other Wireless router?

I own a signifcant amount of TP-Link gear, so I'm a little disappointed by this - I thought they had a global approach to their devices in which I could use Omada for all, but nope.

Thanks

Luciano

Update: no recovery mode with the reset button on the Chinese. I tried the instructions on the TP-Link page and was unable to get to the recovery page.

Another update: I mirrored the port I was using to connect the EAP to a port which I had a computer monitoring traffic.

The Chinese device does a lot of CAPWAP discovery requests. However, Omada controller does not respond to those. I don't see any traffic from the controller to the Chinese EAP.

Also it queries every second for tplinkac.tplogin.cn. And nmap showed ports 53, 8000 and 8080 open..

  @LucianoR

what tplink sells in china does not work with anything sold in the rest of the world. don't try it.

if you say you want a dummy switch, you can consider it but the warranty is different.

what you asked, from my experience in tech stuff I can answer some.

1. impossible. you posted other details. ports are different. then you won't be able to use it with the omada controller

2. firmware is made based on the chipset. you certain the chipset between these two are the same?

if they are using the same chipset, ram is similar, you probably can use the firmware and flash it. i played with asus and some other brands using the same chip. it may work if the chipset is the same.but that'll void the warranty certainly.

3. no

4. probably you can give it away to someone who does not need a controller. just use it as an ap.

go with the same product line. it's common for many manufacturers to make different software or localized software when they go for a different market. things would be entirely different.

  @LucianoR

it's just another set of commands/kernel. if the kernel is different, it will not work that way. no way to fix this or mirror it.

  @Tedd404 Actually, I found out that the devices share same chips for flash, processor, etc.

China - acwifi net /16413.html

US - mbreviews / tp-link-eap670-wifi-6-access-point-review/

As far as Kernel, the firmware images have very similar versions:

Linux version 4.4.60 (jenkins@wlcilnx3) (gcc version 5.2.0 (OpenWrt GCC 5.2.0 7b0a44e37a1d05d71a2a88746b30dbba58524e4b) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Sep 2 12:13:49 CST 2022

Linux version 4.4.60 (jenkins@sohoiapbuild) (gcc version 5.2.0 (OpenWrt GCC 5.2.0 unknown) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Sep 21 18:53:36 CST 2022

  @LucianoR

if they share the same CPU, you have a chance to flash the firmware to it. but not sure if you have/can access the root to do that.

  @Tedd404 yes, they share the same hardware and I can get a bootlog, but unable to break it. All documented here:
