Hi, for TP-Link range extender, we have to configure the extender to connect router WiFi, not very sure if the Telstra smart wifi booster 3 is similar or not, if it doesn't work, it is recommended to contact Telstra to troubleshoot the extender issue.

Hi, what is the model number of your extender?

If you don't want to connect the extender to your router via Ethernet cable, you have to configure the extender to connect Wi-Fi network of the router, so if you just disconnect the cable but has not connected to router WiFi, there will be no internet access from the extender.

The extender is a Telstra smart wifi booster 3 (m35h-emr2)
