This VPN feature seems to have vanished, despite being present for the V2 and ER7206 versions.  Why?

I have had it confirmed by support that ER605v1 will never get Wireguard.  Not enough filesystem memory.

I'm afraid that ER605 V1 doesn't support Wireguard VPN at present. This has already been forwarded to the TP-Link team for evaluation.

At the time for the last firmware 1.3.0 of ER605 V1 wireguard still no supported. When wireguard planned to add to firmware? Do you know something about it?

Ditch it and get a 7206 or a 605 V2.  The V2 seems to be getting quicker firmware updates.
