Hello,

I have noticed that my Extender RE450 version 4, working in Repeater mode, makes queries every 9 seconds to the DNS server, pointing to the domain a root-servers net

(I removed the dots on purpose, since this forum did not allow me to send the post with links).

Why does this happen?

How can it be stopped? I have searched all the interface options on the RE450, but there is nothing that can do this.

The RE450 is working in Repeater mode, with a fixed IP, 192.168.3.13 and with DHCP turned off.

I will appreciate your help.

Thank you.

I attach a graph of the last connections to the DNS, and also another graph with the total number of connections to the DNS that the RE450 is making in 2 days.

SergIo M.

Hi, the DNS queries are used to check and monitor internet status of the extender, so that correct internet status can be displayed. And I am afraid it cannot be disabled.

@Sunshine Hello, but I have a TPLINK RE505X repeater, and this equipment does not present this behavior.
Only the RE450 behaves like this. Because?

Hi, may I know where and how did you do the packets capture to check the DNS queries from the extender?

Are the RE450 V4 and RE505X connected to the same router wirelessly? If possible, please provide your network topology as well.

  @Sunshine Hello

RE450 V4 and RE505X are connected to the same router (Archer AX10).

The only difference is that RE450 V4 is connected as Repeater via 5GHz, and RE505X is connected as Access Point.

About the query DNS: I'm using a PI-Hole system on my network, and there I see the RE450 V4 queries, filtering the RE450 V4 IP address.

Hi, normally AP mode should have those DNS queries as well, if the RE505X AP mode could display the internet status correctly, there must be the DNS queries as well.

Please don't worry about the DNS queries on the RE450, as it is a normal behavior.

@Sunshine Hi, thanks for your reply

But I don't think this a regular behaviour.

The RE450 v4 each 9 seconds, query to a root-server (dot) net

My question is why this happens?

On my entire network, the RE450 is the number 1 equipment to query to the WEB.
