Yes, VoIP phones always need a wired connection. You can connect your phone to a WiFi access point, but you have to physically wire it to the device. You can also connect it to a WiFi extender, network bridge, or computer connected over WiFi.
While these options are all possible, this isn’t a best practice. Regardless of the wireless device you connect your IP phone to, you may experience quality issues such as audio loss, jitter, or latency.
