Model: Archer C80
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.13.1 Build 230609 Rel.31746n(5553)

I've tried to contact the technical support in every possible way (Live Chat Support, Phone Call Support, Email Support, and etc). but no one is answering calls or replying to the emails I sent.

After being put on hold for hours and listening to COVID-19 precaution message on loop with no one to answer the call I come here to seek help.

I have an Archer C80 Router with hardware version 2.20 that I purchased 3 months ago and recently it started rebooting on it's own and it reached to a point where I could not plug in the WAN cable because the router kept restarting endlessly. When I removed the WAN cable it was on and didn't restart.

TP-Link gave me a refurbished router as a replacement for it. However, last week I bought a brand new C80 and It's been restarting once or twice a day by itself and I'm worried that this unit might have a problem too.

- I'm using the original adapter

- The router is in well ventilated place so it is not overheating.

- The router is connected to a surge protector.

- The auto reboot option is off.

- I have already factory reset the router twice.

- I'm using the latest firmware.

- I connect 3-4 devices wirelessly and I have a secondary router connected to my main router (The main router is restarting on it's own).

Here's the router log.

I've been provided with a beta version of the new firmware. Archer C80 triggered a reboot after receiving a specific packet. I've been using the beta firmware for about 9 days now and no restarts so far. The only thing that's been bothering me is the watermarks in the UI.

I've been told that if everything goes as planned then this issue will be resolved in the next official firmware update. The engineer doesn't know the official release date. I will post a link to the new firmware when it gets updated over here

https://www.tp-link.com/in/support/download/archer-c80/v2.20/#Firmware

Thank you! @Sunshine

  @SaurabhS

Hi, thank you very much for posting on TP-Link Community.

1. May I know who your ISP is?

2. The refurbished router replaced for you is also C80 V2.2 and has no auto reboot issue now on the same line, right?

3. The brand new C80 is also V2.2? does it happen randomly or also when you connect WAN cable? when it happens, it just reboots once and then stay on, or keeps rebooting until you remove the WAN cable?

4. Is the secondary router another C80?

  @Sunshine Thanks for the resposne.

1. My ISP: Navkar Supertech Pvt Ltd

2. Yes, the replaced refurbished router is a C80 V 2.20 and the refurbished one has no issues but the one I had before that had rebooting issues too. That's why I got it replaced. It used to reboot 2-4 times a day and a few days later it went on a rebooting loop and it would only stop rebooting when the WAN cable was plugged out. It had the same hardware and firmware version that I have right now.

3.The brand new router is an Archer C80 Hardware Version: v2.20 and Firmware Version:1.13.1 Build 230609 Rel.31746n(5553)

And, The router randomly reboots throughout the day and stays on. I got this router on 6th September 2023. It worked fine for two days then it started rebooting on it's own.

I have pasted the logs and the timestamps are from every reboot.

4. I'm using the refurbished C80 as my secondary router and the new C80 is my main router which is having rebooting issues. My main internet line is going to a XPON/ONU device (Ubiqcom UB5010G) and I have to connect a Cat 6 patch cable to that device and the other end connects to my main router's WAN Port (The router that is having issues). And from my main router's LAN port I connect the secondary router.

And before all of this. I was using TL-WR840N. I used it for 3 years without any issues. I switched to C80 because I wanted to use gigabit speeds. I also used it for a couple of days while my C80 was going through the replacement procedure and it had no issues.

  @Sunshine

Thank you for forwarding this issue to the engineers.

I just wanted to post an update on the situation over here to summarize what's happened until now. So, TP-Link India has replaced both of my Archer C80 routers. My main router was replaced with a new C80, and my secondary router was replaced with a refurbished C80. All 4 C80 routers that I have used have the same hardware version 2.20 and they came with firmware version Archer C80(US)_V2.2_1.12.10 Build 230208. I've tried upgrading the firmware of all routers to the latest firmware but the issues still persists.

Yesterday, I received a new replacement router that came with (H/W: 2.20 Firmware: 1.12.10 Build 230208). After I plugged in the new router it restarted 6 times in the span of 24 hours with the same error.

EXCEPTION Exception| Assertion failed: &pppParams == params || &ppp6Params == params, file ./ppp/pppLib.c, line 863 .->[404bfc08]->[404cdaec]->[4039c4d0]->[4051a154]->[40218ebc]->[40218bdc]->[404c2248]->[4046e6bc]->[4051fc4c]->[4051c144]->[40527adc]->[405278e4]

I'm using pppoe connection and I haven't changed any settings of any of the routers. They are at default.

I've tried every solution that I have found on live support and from email support.

- I'm using the original adapter

- The router is in well ventilated place so it is not overheating.

- The router is connected to a surge protector and a 24/7 power supply.

- The auto reboot option is off.

- I have tried factory resetting the routers.

- I'm using the latest firmware.

Thank you! @Sunshine

  @Sunshine Can this firmware be used on the Archer C64 too?

I have exactly the same problem, exactly as he describes and running around in circles with your tech support telling me to change power adaptor.

@ChrisUK  As far as I know the beta firmware I got was specifically written for C80. I wouldn't recommend installing different firmwares on different models before talking to the engineer as it could brick your router and void the warranty. I tried to roll back to the old versions of the firmwares but it didn't help in my case, but you can try it.

They haven't updated the new firmware on the site yet. I hate how the beta firmware watermark covers the entire UI and I'm unable to read things because of it.

  @SaurabhS Thanks!

Run around in circles by tech support telling me I'm having storms or power cuts, or using a wrong adapter. I think I'd know about it if I had storms and power cuts / surges every single day with the same error code in log.

Kept offering up the entire log file - and response was "we don't need log to fix"

As it's not old, they are just saying return it to Amazon. But it's over 30 days old, so Amazon are difficult to deal with and I'll be without a router until get a new one. The service is shocking - is putting me off TP-Link products, they used to be reliable. Now stuck with this brick that reboots itself as can't be without it.
