Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.6.3

Hi there,

I have upgraded my virgin from 500 to 1000gb with new hub 5. Previously I had hub 3 and 500gb. My deco is connected to router and i was getting 460mbs previously. I upgraded and set up last night. if i connect to Virgin router it shows 1136 speeds. however in deco app I am only getting 460-500. I have no idea why. I dont really want to put in router mode as messes up some stuff around the house. can anyone help why this is happening. My cable from router to M9 is Cat8 so should be fine (and its only 0.4m long). thank you

It is bug in Deco app speedtest: when in AP mode it will not give results higher than 500-550Mbps. This is just a reporting bug in the Deco app, in reality wired link from Main Deco is gigabit. If you can connect device with gigabit Ethernet port to second port of Main Deco M9, such as laptop or desktop, speed test on that device will show correct wired speed.

In regard to WiFi speeds. Deco M9 Plus is WiFi5. Mobile device connected to Main Deco M9 Plus can get up to 600Mbps over WiFi, but not more and usually a bit less.

@Alexandre. I am thinking of switching to the AX75 5400, do you think that would work better than the m9 as the wifi speeds getting on m9 are not very good compared to ISP even when standing next to main deco

Is this Deco XE75 or Deco XE75 Pro or some other model? I am used to such model names as M9, X55, XE75, etc.

Also, do you have Virgin Hub 5 or Virgin Hub 5x?

Sorry, one more question: How many Deco nodes do you have and do they connect to each other by WiFi or through Ethernet cable?

I have the main deco (M9) connected to router (hub5). then from the other ethernet port in deco it runs to a switch.i then have 2 M9's connected to that via ethernet. I then have 1 x m9 connected only via wif and another m9 on wifi only

I would not recommend Deco XE75 Pro. It does not fit into your network layout and also there are many people on this forum complaining of hardware issues with XE75 Pro specifically. The difference between XE75 Pro and XE75 is that XE75 Pro has one 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port and two gigabit ports, XE75 has three gigabit ports. Complains seem to be about 2.5 Gigabit port of XE75 Pro.

Virgin Hub 5 has one 2.5 gigabit Ethernet port, other ports are gigabit. If you have gigabit Internet link now that 2.5 Gigabit port makes no difference, but it might in the future.

Before buying new WiFi mesh, you will need to decide two things: how long you plan to keep it and will you upgrade to faster than gigabit Internet link and home LAN during that time frame. The answer to this question will define Deco model you should consider.

1. In case you plan to go above gigabit Internet link, you will need Deco model with at least two 2.5Gigabit Ethernet ports. One of its ports will connect to Virgin Hub 2.5 Gigabit port, another - to new 2.5 Gigabit switch you'll have to buy to replace your current gigabit switch.

In that case, I would recommend Deco BE65 - check its specs. It supports WiFi 7 and will be pricier than alternatives - but can handle up to 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet traffic, WAN and LAN.

2. If you are confident that for the duration of your new Deco mesh you will not upgrade Internet link and home LAN to above gigabit, XE75 will do just fine. It supports WiFi 6E.

----------

On a side note, you may not need WiFi 6E to squeeze gigabit out of WiFi, especially if you do not have much WiFi interference. Hence, one more option:

3. Also consider Deco X55. It is WiFi6, has three gigabit Ethernet ports, and likely most budget-friendly among all of the above.
