Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi all, I would like to ask and see if anyone is having this problem. I am trying to use my M4 as AP for my second floor (as the router's speed sucks for my 2nd floor) but when I connected my M4 to the router, I'm only getting 90 ish mbps but whej using my router speed it's 320mbps. May I know what maybe the limitations or what changes should I make?

Two possibilities come to mind in case like this:

1. M4 negotiated 100Mbps speed over Ethernet cable connecting it to router. The cause is Ethernet cable that can't handle gigabit speeds.

Depending on M4 firmware version, it may or may not alert about it. If you see "Abnormal WAN speed" error message in Deco app, it means you have for sure 100Mbps speed over the cable.

If this is the case, replace cable.

2. What you have is Deco E4 and not Deco M4. They look alike, but E4 has 100Mbps Ethernet ports while M4 has gigabit ports. You can't have faster than 100Mbps speeds from E4 connected by Ethernet cable.

If this is the case, you may need to replace E4 by different Deco model.

-----------------

In Deco app, go to More/System/Update Deco page and there you should see what Deco model(s) do you have and with what version of firmware.

ahhh I see my problem now...I always thought the one I'm using is a M4 because when I was setting it up I selected M4 and it went through 😅.

Well then, for your suggestion would you recommend me to change my router which can reach a further distance then use my current router as a AP or just get Mesh and use the mesh as router and AP.

for router I was thinking of either changing to AX73/72 or AX55 pro

or AX10 mesh

What do you have as your router now: brand, model name?

This appears to be standard WiFi 5 capable router. It maybe time to replace it with WiFi mesh. WiFi5 capable mesh can deliver 500Mbps speeds, but if you want future-proof I would recommend WiFi6 which should deliver gigabit WiFi speeds.

If going with WiFi5, get pair of Deco M4, S4 or S7.

For WiFi6, and that would be my preference in your case, get pair of Deco X50 or Deco X55.
