Ookla Speed test not working
Since the latest firmware update a day or so ago, the WIFI has been very intermittent. Just refusing to download at times. Nothing wrong at the ISP end. I ran the Ookla Speed test on the the home computer, which is connected via Ethernet, and got the maximum speed, with very little delay. The WIFI is getting stuck and wont download at times on my phone and that of my partner. Have tried rebooting and hasnt worked. Any ideas people?
thanks

Hello, 🫡
With this firmware, I encountered a lot of issues as well… WiFi speeds dropped drastically, almost as if the system is in throttle mode and can’t “push” the speeds any higher.
I tried various solutions and tests, but the most practical one was to install the beta firmware from here: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/697580 ‼️ Be sure to carefully select the firmware version for your specific system.
Based on my observations, I believe the issue is caused by certain IoT devices (if you have any) connected to the network, especially if they're from the Tapo range. These seem to create conflicts, if I can call them that…
For example, until I updated to the beta firmware on my system (see my signature below), I kept having issues with the secondary unit, which almost always appeared offline in the Deco app. This prevented me from making changes, as they would only apply to the primary unit… This issue is known in the thread above, and a firmware fix is expected.
To summarize, last night I tried updating again to the stable firmware version and the stable Deco app, just like the version you currently have. And guess what? After the first system restart, the issues reappeared… Very low WiFi speeds, the network optimization feature kept indicating that optimization was needed for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, and eventually, the secondary unit showed up as offline in the app. The solution was to disable the separate IoT network, and after a restart, everything worked normally without the IoT devices connected.
Solutions for you:
- Try a complete network reset and reconfigure your system.
-
ATTENTION ⚠️ BOTH UNITS NEED TO BE ONLINE IN THE APP TO PERFORM THE STEP BELOW‼️
- Install the Deco Beta App 3.8.112 (IOS) or 3.8.102 (ANDROID) via the TestFlight (IOS) or via APK (ANDROID) link here: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/669086 and install the BETA firmware version that matches your system from the thread linked at the beginning.
The combination of the Deco BETA app and BETA firmware should solve your issues. I’m currently running this setup, and everything works fine.

Hi Denis55
I ended up doing a reset on the main Deco unit and setting up a separate IOT network for the smart lights, plugs and controllers. This IOT network feature is available via the Deco app. This has essentially fixed the issue. All IOT devices are off the 5GHz and 2.4 Guest Network and are on their own separate channel. No need for a firmware change.
Thanks for you help anyways
Cheers
Craig
