I have inserted my SIM card and charged it but once unplugged it won't turn on. Even if plugged in, all it is showing is the battery light. I have pressed on 'on' button

If factory reset does not help, I am afraid the device got defective. You may contact local support/retailer to confirm warranty or consider purchasing a brand new.
