Hi all, I have a hybrid network with some DECO X50 and 2 DECO X50 Outdoor (>1000m² to cover)

It has been working OK for the past few months, but I'm experiencing some ISP reliability issues lately (cable-based, they are working on the network - fiber etc - leading to frequent outages). I'm using my connection professionally so having a reliable connection is very important to me. There is no alternative provider or fiber in my area yet.

For that reason I wanted to add a DECO X50-5G to my set-up to add 5G backup in case my main connectivity goes down (5G has just become available here a couple of days ago)

I have purchased the DECO X50-5G, and an extra 5G SIM subscription, and added it to my set-up.

The X50-5G is added as an extra Deco to my set-up, but to my surprise I have no 'internet backup' option in my Advanced menu.

It seems like I have to install a new (unfinished) firmware to get the feature.
Which - even if I wanted to do that - does not work since the web interface does not work (I the firmware upgrade section I cannot select a Device Model in the dropdown - the dropdown does not present any options - hence I'm stuck).

I thought about moving the X50-5G to as Main Deco, however then I seem to have to deactivate EasyMesh since not supported on the X50-5G. Not sure what the implication of that is.

It sounds a bit like the 5G backup has been marketed as a feature prematurely, leading me to the conclusion I would have to return the X50-5G since it does not provide the functionality I wanted. Definitely given the price it costs.

Does anybody see any alternative solutions or some advice to still get it working?

Quick update

Tried to install the X50-5G as main unit. The main unit replacement through the application went haywire, old Deco network config was deleted somehow, hence had to reinstall from scratch.

Re-installed with the X50-5G as new main unit. Was able to update firmware.

However network was very unstable as soon as I added some X50 and an X50 Outdoor.

Had to once again restart the whole process and reinstall the whole lot with the X50 (as original) as main unit.

Now everything is back to normal.

That X50-5G is going back to where it came from.

  @FrankyV

Hi, thanks for posting question here.

It is a pity to hear you got a lot of trouble when trying to use 5G backup feature of Deco X50-5G.

I am afraid that Deco X50-5G can support 4G/5G Backup only when it works as main Deco, and this guide is for your reference.

Anyway, thanks for your sharing and welcome to share your words anytime you want.
