This one has me stumped! After two years of excellent service, the router has developed an odd fault. When my wife switches her PC on, which is connected by cable to the router, the rest of us, connected wirelessly, lose connection. It is a pain for me as I am usually working, but our sons lose whatever game it is they are playing on the Playstaion etc. Creates an bit of family tension....any thoughts anyone.

More seriously Marcomp, check if the Ethernet adapter of your wife is properly set, I mean with an IP address not in conflict with another...

Thanks for taking the time to answer, I realise now my wife knows more about IT than I thought:D
How do I check the ethernet adapter IP address conflict - via ipconfig? Do I then need to check the IP's of all the other devices in the house?
Also if a conflict, how do I change it?

To avoid network problems, my advice is to use static IP addresses with work stations and dynamic IP addresses only with roaming machines...

Yes you are right.

Network cards you have to set "Obtain an IP address automatically"
My suggestion, please check power AC in wife computer,

checked network card on wife's pc, it is set to Obtain an IP address automatically" so thats that option ruled out
