TL-WR740N is transmitting wrong Country Code in repeater mode
Region : UnitedKingdom
Model : TL-WR740N
Hardware Version : V4
Firmware Version : 4.20.0 Build 131211 Rel.37483n
ISP : Virgin Media
Hi there,
A possible bug report... (I'm reporting this as weird behaviour in repeater mode because that's where I've seen it happening; I haven't tested it in any other modes though.)
I bought a TL-WR702N earlier today and have successfully set it up as a wireless repeater; it's working fine but I noticed something weird which I thought I'd mention.
As I'm in the UK, in the wireless settings I've set the Region to "United Kingdom", but (after a reboot), when I scan local access points using a command-line tool, it's still showing up with a Country Code of US rather than GB as it should be:
$ /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport -s
SSID BSSID RSSI CHANNEL HT CC SECURITY (auth/unicast/group)
Ladybug Towers 9c:d3:6d:86:e6:48 -33 3 Y GB WPA(PSK/AES,TKIP/TKIP) WPA2(PSK/AES,TKIP/TKIP)
Ladybug Towers f8:1a:67:6f:89:ce -65 3 Y US WPA(PSK/AES,TKIP/TKIP) WPA2(PSK/AES,TKIP/TKIP)
I've cut out the other access points listed by the airport utility to just focus on the issue. The MAC address F8-1A-67-6F-89-CE is my TL-WR702N and as you can see, its country code is US; the MAC address 9c:d3:6d:86:e6:48 is the main router, correctly showing a country code of GB.
I've tried setting it to different regions (eg Spain) and while it looks OK in the admin utility (after reboots) it seems to me there's a disconnect between what the admin web page is reporting, and what the device is actually doing.
I don't think I've done anything exotic: I used quick setup to configure the device as a repeater, I gave it a static IP address (because I wanted it to stay accessible at 192.168.0.254 rather than whatever my DHCP server decided to give it), and I changed the admin password; otherwise it's at factory defaults (I believe).
Thoughts?
Thanks!
-Andy
