Question about 8dbi antenna?

Okay, so I have the router (741) on one side of the house and my room is actually on the other side of the house with lots of walls in-between. My phone doesn't pick the signal at all while my tablet and my laptop do pick a very week signal and I'd like to improve the situation. Now, if I connected an 8dbi antenna to my router, will I sense a real improvement?
The antenna that I already have is a 5dbi one.
