MA-180 3g USB Modem Optus Internet Dropouts Frequently
Region : Australia
Model : MA180
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version :
ISP : Optus
It seems lately I have had no end of trouble with the MA180 retaining a reliable 3G internet connection with Optus. It connects OK with the TP-Link MA180 3gutility.exe supplied, but the internet drops out after five minutes even though the utility shows it is still connected to Optus. I have tried running a USB extension cable to the roof with the dongle on the end and the utility shows 4 bars of signal, but the problem persists. I want to connected the MA-180 to a D-Link DWR-113 3G Internet Router but the same problem happens there also (I ruled this out as reliable test as the TP-Link MA180 3g modem is not on the compatibility list for the D-Link DWR-113 Router). Seems I am not the only one with this problem of internet dropping out - see:

There is NO solution posted there. Last post August 2013.
I have uninstalled the 3gutility.exe that came with the MA180 (Dated 17/4/2012 4:32pm) and installed the latest 3g utility (Dated 27/7/2012 11:01am) from the website (August 21st 2013 Date). I checked that I have Ver 1.1 MA180 version. The latest 3G utility didn't even recognize that an Optus Sim was inserted even though Windows 7 recognised the USB device had been inserted. I uninstalled using the TP-Link uninstall option under "All Programs" and restarted computer every time as requested when the utility is uninstalled.
I reinstalled 3Gutility.exe back to the original version supplied with the device. I now can no longer get the MA-180 to recognize my Optus Sim with the 3G utility with the original program reinstalled. The bottom right tray says there is no sim when there is one inserted. I now have got a 2nd problem as it now will now longer work on this PC since reinstalling a later version of the 3g utility.exe
Whats the answer to both of these problems? Is there a later firmware somewhere that may fix this as I cannot find anything on the tp-link website.
