TPLINK(TL-WN721N) Wifi Dongle has constant green light on it, and does not work

I'm using a TPLINK(TL-WN721N) wifi dongle to connect my raspberry-pi to an adhoc network. There is one green light on it that usually blinks. But sometimes I observe that the dongle goes into a state where the green light becomes constant and then it simply does not send or receive any packets at all(did a tcpdump on the wlan interface).
Please let me know why the dongle is going into this state, I'm really stuck :(
