702N in hotels - how to?

Region : Argentina

Model : TL-WR740N

Hardware Version : V4

Firmware Version : 4.19.1 Build 130528 Rel.52704n

ISP : don't know (hotel dependent)

I walk into a hotel room with no Ethernet jack on the wall, only wifi with a captive portal (web page to agree to terms & conditions, enter password).

How do I use the 702N to connect to the hotel Wi-Fi, agree to the terms & conditions page, then create its own SSID to which I can connect my devices? Clearly I need to use the bridge mode.

But how do I enter bridge mode configuration in the 1st place? I connected my laptop to the 702N with the RJ45 cable between the 2, then typed in a browser http:// 192.168.0.254 but nothing happens. Do I need another type of cable than the small white cable provided in the box?

Last point: one of my devices is a Chromecast. Will I be able to give it Internet connectivity through the 702N?

Thank your for your answer.
I have erased 1 topic which is similar. However, another topic is a bug regarding TP link wireless survey so I keep it open.

The link you sent me has a big warning sign on the top that reads:

Note: This FAQ is only suitable for TL-WR702N with firmware version 130314 or older; it is NOT suitable for 130528 or later version.

Are you sure that it applies to my Firmware Version : 4.19.1 Build 130528 Rel.52704n ?

Anyway, I followed the procedure step by step, tried it on 2 different PCs, still does not work.

Hi, this is the firmware that came with my router out of the box. 130528

A simple search for latest firmware gives this link:

http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/?model=TL-WR702N&version=V1

The version 130314 is listed there.

I see wireless adapters enable they have to be disable
Add default gateway to static ip on oc 192.168.0.254
Did you try http://tplinklogin.net/
No luck erase the cache on IE or try Chrome browser
Still no luck try this ip 192.168.1.254 don't forget you have to change subnet to static ip from 0 to 1
And if using Win 7 try dynamic ip instead of static

Hi, thanks for helping. The last sentence was the most crucial, as I am on Windows 7.

Eventually http://tplinklogin.net/ worked. 192.168.0.254 or 192.168.1.254 did not work as for some reason the router had a static IP assigned to 192.168.0.16, which is the IP it got when on my home network. BTW, my home network also uses the 192.168.0.1 network with a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask. I am not sure if that helps.

I am now glad that I managed to set up bridge mode.

Moving on to my next question: when in a hotel room, in bridge mode, will this give internet connectivity to my Chromecast??

Regards,

OK, thanks - I will be able to test Chromecast next week, will keep you posted.

Before that, one more question: assuming, like is often the case, that the hotel imposes a splash page for login (where to enter room # and customer name, or to enter a code that was given at the reception), when I go to Wireless settings in the 702N configuration (in bridge mode) and select the hotel Wi-Fi, is the 702N able to go to that authentication page and get Internet connection from the hotel?

You should upgrade to latest FW

I have the firmware 4.19.1 Build 130528 Rel.52704n

According to this page
http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/?model=TL-WR702N&version=V1

130528 is the latest stable firmware. There is a newer beta firmware, but I will keep away from beta software.

If there is a newer stable firmware, please let me know.
