M5350 not accepting firmware update

Hardware Version : V2
Firmware Version :

I tried to upgrade the firmware on my M5350 to M5350_V1_140311, using the downloaded firmware file and updater, but it just fails and gives me the error
Failed to get device hardware version - Error No 110
the firmware version appears to be older than any on the website trying M5350_V1_130809 or M5350_V1_131113 give the same result.
Anyone got any idea why this is not working?
