TL-WA901ND - Chromecast/IGMP issues

Hi
I've found that I can't use a Chromecast device with the WA901ND router. I swapped it for an old Linksys router and that works fine. It seems that this is related to the TP-link router not supporting Multicast/IGMP/UPNP.
Anyone know how to get around that?

Downgrade firmware
2014-12-29 06:14:23
The new firmware is what causes this to break, I updated mine this morning and then all of a sudden my chromecast stopped working, I checked the release notes and I believe this to be the cause
"(3) Improved the security mechanism, enhanced the ability to prevent the XSS and DoS attack. "
I think they fixed this by disabling Multicast and other features required by Chromecast...downgrading now and will report back

Downgrade firmware
2014-12-29 06:19:45
I upgraded my AP this morning and then began experiencing chromecast issues and stumbled upon this thread, after doing some digging I believe the problem lies within the updated firmware |
'(3) Improved the security mechanism, enhanced the ability to prevent the XSS and DoS attack. "
I believe this function disables Multicast transmissions as well as other features required by chromecast. I am downgrading my firmware now and will report back.

Yep, the updated firmware was the issue, just downgrade the previous one and it will work right away.

Hi guys
I found an intersting phenomenon.
After I have set the chromecast with the error message,
but I can use the YouTube to cast video on my TV.
I think there may be some information lost through the 901.
Whatever , I can enjoy my TV.

Thanks. That's very interesting as I had tried downgrading and still had the issue. I've raised a ticket with TP-Link and they've acknowledged they can recreate the issue (I think on both FWs). Does it work for you consistently? What are you using - Android or iPhone?

Yeah, it worked consistently both wiht my Youtube APP and the Chrome .
I used an iphone 5s, and the video can be casted stably.

2015-02-20 01:28:16
I did have the same problem and couldn't solve it in any other way than downgrading firmware to
3.14.8 Build 130828 Rel.63678n.

Downgrading works!
2015-04-18 12:39:43
Spent hours trying to get my Chromecast to work... blamed it on my firewall, but turned out it was the TL-WA901ND, which I use in Access Point mode. As others have said, the fix was to DOWNGRADE to firmware 3.14.8 Build 130828 Rel.63678n.
Thank you very much for posting this solution!
