Region : UnitedKingdom

Model : TL-WR841N

Hardware Version : V8

Firmware Version : 3.15.9

ISP : British Telecom (BT)

First post so greetings to all from Northern Ireland.

I currently have BT Infinifty (FTTC) broadband using a separate Openreach Modem and BT Home Hub 3 wireless router (Connected to each other by WAN) The wireless part of the router has an issue so I've replaced it with a WR841N V8 which has been updated to the latest available firmware 3.15.9.

The BT HH3 gave me consistent download speeds of 26-29Mbps wired & 24Mbps wireless. The TP-Link is giving me a consistent 9.5Mbps (Never over 10) wired & wireless. I've went back to the HH3 a few times (In case the ISP had throttled my line) but its still almost 30Mbps each time.

My desktop PC has two LAN ports, one on the Motherboard and a PCI adapter board port. Both produce the same download speed. Checking their set up both are set to 'Auto detect' and report a connection speed of 100Mbps. I've tried changing them to 100Mbps full Duplex (From Auto detect) but that doesn't help.

WAN connection type is set at PPPoE (I've done this more than once using auto detect and manually selected)

I'm stumped, hopefully someone will be able to help?

Regards.

Can you compare IP addresses from TP-LINK WAN and network card when you have internet access without TP-link router?

Thanks for reply, though I'm not sure what you're asking for.

Logging into router and going to DHCP > Client list I can see assigned IP numbers for PC (Ethernet) and Phones (2 off wireless)

If I go to the LAN Port properties on PC (Windows 7) and check the IPv4 address it matches the assigned IP address on router. 192.168.0.100

If you need any more details just ask, though I'm no techie so keep them straight forward :)

I asked about IP address from WAN port (tp-link) and IP address from network card when you have internet access without TP-link. Do you understand?

Not really, sorry.

Are you asking me to put the ISP provided router (HH3) back in and connect the modem WAN to the HH3 WAN to provide internet access? Then connect by ethernet as usual to one of the PC LAN ports?

Then connect the WAN port of the TP-Link to ? the other LAN port on PC perhaps and get IP addresses?

I'm afraid if you've enough patience you'll have to provide instructions of exactly what you want. Thanks.

Firstly:
Can you give me screenshot from TP-link (Status tab) when you have internet access by WR841N?

Secondly:
Give me screenshot from ipconfig /all when you have PPPoE connection without tp-link. Only modem <-> computer.

This is when everything is connected as normal:

Not sure about modem to computer?
Curently have RJ11 from main telephone socket to openreach modem, ethernet from modem to router (WAN) and ethernet from router to PC.

Modem does not normally connect direct to PC. How would you like it connected for the test?

I can't see Local Network or PPPoE addresses?

You have to create broadband pppoe connection and there enter login and password from ISP. I think that you understand me ;)

I'm struggling!

Today I seen a used Belkin F5D8236-4 advertised for very little money (£5) It was located very close to where I live so I bought and installed it. I'm now obtaining the same download speeds (Both wired and wireless) as the original ISP supplied router. I want to leave it in for a few days to see if it's stable and reliable, this is important as my TV package is broadband based.

So for now jimasek thanks for all your help, I'll get back to you if the Belkin proves troublesome.
