Region : Brazil

Model : Archer C9

Hardware Version : Not Clear

Firmware Version : 3.16.29 Build 20150122 Rel.64222n

ISP : NET VIRTUA

I have some TP-LINK Wireless routers,TL-WR741ND, TL-WR841N, TL-WR1043ND and Archer C9.
The TL-WR1043ND was my main AP router for several years without any major problem, now I am using the Archer C9 as the main router and almost everything works fine as expected.
But there is a big issue with WDS.
The TL-WR741ND and TL-WR841N both with latest firmware released for them used to connect flawessly using WDS to the TL-WR1043ND, now they connect to the Archer C9 (I could ping their IP address and WDS status is RUN) but I am not getting Ip address when connecting to them (wired or wireless), and even forcing static IP address sems as if i was isolated. Is there any special instructions to make WDS work as used between the older TL-WR and Archer C9? This is a big issue for be, because WDS was useful for extending my network. Maybe something related to different architecture Broadcom/Atheros?
Thanks in advance.
Daniel Chollet...

Daniel Chollet, you should provide hardware version info. of TL-WR741ND, TL-WR841N and TL-WR1043ND.
In order to build a successful WDS connection between different devices, it requires that both devices use the same wireless MAC address format.
Archer C9 uses 3-address MAC Address format. I doubt your TL-WR1043ND supports both 3-address MAC Address format and 4-address MAC Address format, while your TL-WR741ND and TL-WR841N just support 4-address MAC Address format.

@Daniel

C9 only supports 3-addr-wds.

Both TL-WR741ND_V4_150119 and TL-WR841N_V9_150104 support 3-addr-WDS so that they can wds to C9.

You should re-configure WDS on TL-WR741ND and TL-WR841N, don't use the old configuration which is used to connect the TL-WR1043ND.

In addition, during configuring 841N, you can see the WDS mode option, remember to select WDS mode 1. WDS mode 1 is 3-addr-wds, which is compatible with C9.

Also, you should disable DHCP on 741 and 841. And don't set up any DHCP reservations rules, IP-MAC banding rules, wireless MAC filtering rules on C9.

Hope it helps.

If it still fails, post the hardware info of your 841 and 741.

Thanks coca koala, the configuration is as sugested, made from scratch several times. Maybe hardware/firmware is too old? 741 is V2 and 841 is V7 both with latest available firmware

I am afraid so. 741_V2 and 841_V7 is discontinued long time ago.

I suggest you to change the network in a alternative way.

1. Use C9(192.168.0.1) as the main router.
2. Use 1043 as a pure AP. Change its IP to 192.168.0.2, disable DHCP on 1043. Then connect 1043's LAN port to C9's LAN port, leaving the Wan port empty(disconnect)
3. WDS the 741 and 841 to 1043 as you did before.
