Hello Everyone,

I have been having this problem for some time now and I am considering to throw this range extender out.

But I will give it one last shot since I don't have money to buy a new one.

The DEFAULT GATEWAY is not working.

from the default 192.168.1.254

Now when I use ipconfig command in cmd
it became 169.254.165.180

I already tried to hard reset it nothing happens.

Still same BAD IP ADDRESS.

I can't login the device or try to use it.

There is no WIFI broadcast also.

I am currently using LAN.

Any ideas how i can bring it back to normal? Or just to access the device itself?

I also tried using IP RANGE whereby to scan the complete ip address but still dead. Only ip address alive is the one connected to the computer.


I am at the brink of going crazy now.

Not sure this piece is broken or not, but we can have some try to check:
1. Configure a static IP in this RE, log into its web GUI, check whether the DHCP server (Smart DHCP) is enabled; if not, enable it first.
2. Does this RE not work since you buy it? If it's broken, it's suggested that you contact the shop where you buy to make a replacement if it's still in warranty.
3. Contact TP-LINK tech support if the shop doesn't give a replacement even it's in warranty: http://www.tp-link.com/en/support-contact.html#E-mail-Support

For some reason I can't even connect to the web GUI.

I tried pinging all from 0 to 255. nothing.

I was shocked when the IP got changed from the default.

It is not new so I can't have it replaced.

Since I cannot login the web GUI I can't change the settings,

1. hard reset
2. set your computer a static IP
3. Connect the computer to the RE through a cable, disconnect the WiFi on the computer if there is any
4. Open a browser and enter 192.168.0.254

thank you for the reply coca.I already did the hard reset but it did not go back to the 192.... ip.I also did the static ip still no luck.fyi i also tried via wifi and i cant even find it.Thank you.as for the static ip i was only able to set it on the desktop pc but not the extender.
