Model: Archer TX20UH
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I bought the Archer TX20UH about a year ago as a supposed upgrade from an earlier TP-Link USB adapter I had before (the model I do not remember). The TX20UH has better specs in every category, as well as cost me about twice as much. Yet ever since I bought it it has been consistently worse. The download speeds are way higher, that is for sure, but when gaming online the connection is everything but stable. I myself can never find the motivation to get into the specifics and try to understand what the issue is, so I'm now finally writing here for some help.

Does it have to do with compatibility with my setup? My WiFi router? A couple quick google searches tell me it could, but none tell me how to know - if it was such a big deal the information sure is hard to find.

I truly don't want to believe this product is just worse than earlier generations, and I'm sure it's got something to do with my side of things - but I just don't have the capability to figure out what is wrong.

Thank you in advance for your help. Feel free to ask about specifics regarding my issues, setup and/or router.

Hi, welcome to our community.

What is the model and OS of your computer?

Did you install the latest driver from the official website?

It is suggested to follow Case2 in the guide to troubleshoot:

What should I do if the TP-Link network adapter is not working properly in my computer?

Please share more details about unstable connection and the results of your troubleshooting steps if you need further suggestions.

Thank you and best regards.

  @Marvin_S

Thank you for answering.

I use Windows 11, version 24H2 - and I should have the newest driver, as it was the first thing I tried doing before writing here.

As for troubleshooting - The signal strength might be an issue, as I'm on the second floor whilst the router is on the bottom - but this hasn't changed over the last 2 USB adapters I've had, and they worked fine this way.
The unstable connection has been happening on both my 2.4 and 5 GHz bands - with the 5 GHz often having worse stability (although, once again usually only when gaming - downloading is quite fine).
As for the ping result - this is the response from the prompt:

Ping statistics
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 2ms, Maximum = 4ms, Average = 2ms

I have yet to restart my PC to see if changing the Power Management of the adapter will have any effect, I will do that now.

Hope this information gives you any clues as to what is wrong, and thank you for your help.

Hi, thanks for your further sharing.

You may continue the troubleshooting steps you mentioned.

And if possible, it is suggested to test the adapter on another computer.

If the same issue remains, you may contact the retailer or local support to confirm warranty.

Best regards.
