Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 5.15.20.20

Hello

I manage two VPNs with the Omada controller.
The VPSs are good, excellent internet connection, 8GB of memory. When accessing the VPSs through the web browser, the experience is excellent, the system opens quickly, and navigation is also good. The VPS and the Omada controller seem to be well installed.

Each one has between 70 and 100 EAPs 110, 225 and 245 routers connected.
Dispersed in several sites, approximately 4 to 10 EAPs in each site.

Public Internet VPS -> Omada controller -> STARLINK -> switch -> EAPs
Both Controllers: 5.15.20.20
Both on Linux Debian 11.

The portal configuration is approximately like this:
Authentication type: hotspot
Type: voucher
HTTPS redirection: enabled

However, we have some problems:

Problem: extreme slowness when opening the hotspot screen.
Approximate time: 1 minute. Sometimes it takes longer. Never less.

The login experience is not good, we expect it to be faster.

We have already tested another system, Mikrotik like on a local network, and the login is fast (< 5 sec).

We have already used hardware Controller OC200, and it is just as slow.

Can anyone help?

I'm thinking it could be an SSL problem, something security-related, but I don't know where to start working on this.

Hi  @DanielSalina

Thanks for posting.

Is this issue happening on all wireless cilents? including android and IOS?

Will this slowness occurs on everytime you trying to connect to the network? or sometimes login fast?

Public Internet VPS -> Omada controller -> STARLINK -> switch -> EAPs

>>>Does this mean, the controller is installed on the cloud?

If you don't mind, please install a software controller in the LAN and see if the issue persists.

Thank you for listening to me.

Here's a video made today:

The omada on lan is slow too..

Hi  @DanielSalina

Thanks for the video.

Is this video recording with a local controller? I see the phone was on flight mode.

Please also share a screenshot of the controller Device page so we would know the EAP versions you are using. Thanks.

Do you mean you also have a similar system with Mikrotik products?  Would you please give me more details about the Mikrotik comparision test?

What kind of device are you using and does it have a controlle too?

  @Vincent-TP Hello Vincent,

The system utilized on video (https://youtube.com/shorts/wmERdkzgnQo) is in the cloud.

Both Controllers: 5.15.20.20 on Linux Debian 11.

"Is this video recording with a local controller?"
No, it's in the cloud.

"I see the phone was in flight mode."
Yes, flight mode + only wifi activated. I do it this way so there is no internet signal from the phone operators.

"Do you mean you also have a similar system with Mikrotik products?"
"Would you please give me more details about the Mikrotik comparison test?"

Last week I tested the login of a friend's Mikrotik, I can give more details in a few days. I'm sure the login screen will open immediately.

"What kind of device are you using and does it have a controlle too?"

Device ? The system is as follows:
Omada Controller software -> debian linux (VPS) -> STARLINK -> gigabit switch -> EAPs 225 and EAP110

I did another test now, using fiber optic internet, eliminating Starlink. There was an increase in speed, the login screen opened in approximately 20 seconds:
--> Omada Controller software -> debian linux (VPS) -> Fiber optic internet -> gigabit switch -> EAPs 225 and EAP110

Although the 20 seconds obtained now with the fiber connection are better, it is still much worse than the test on the Mikrotik. I will make a video of the login on the Mikrotik soon.

The result of the video (https://youtube.com/shorts/wmERdkzgnQo) was strange, since the Starlink connection is usually good (approximately 200mb/s)

Anyway, sir. Do you know if I can do something to test it immediately? Maybe remove secure protocols, or eliminate steps, aiming for greater agility with Starlink connection.

Hi  @DanielSalina

Thank you for your reply. So, you replaced the router and achieved a noticeable speed improvement. Testing at your friend's place was even faster (which also involved changing the router), indicating this issue is largely related to your network environment.

Therefore, I suggest you test with a locally installed controller.

Let me confirm one thing: if you install a controller on a local PC (directly connected behind the router) with identical configurations, will it still take up to 1 minute to respond slowly?

Additionally, the portal login process requires maintaining communication with the controller. While your client device was in airplane mode, the controller was located in the cloud requiring internet access - this may also be related.

I've privately messaged you a beta version link that fixes some known issues for the EAP225-outdoor v3. You can try upgrading a site with the EAP225-outdoor to see if it improves the speed.  Please try it and share the results.

In the meantime, you can have a look on the following post, it introduce how to import your own certificate for Omada controller.

How to Configure HTTPS Certificate to Avoid “Untrusted Certificate” Error
