Archer C6, would like AP setup but also want the 4 Cat6 ports to work and extend the network.
Hi I have purchased this to work as an Assess point in the bedroom for my PC and WiFi for my phone as we live in a Metal reinforced concrete building so WiFi doesn't make it throuh our walls. i have a CAT6 cable from the Virgin (UK)router in the living room to the WAN port on the C6
I would like to use the WiFi and the Network ports. however my printers in the living room plugged into the router and the network Hard drive for the TV and other stuff is in the living room.
I set this C6 up as an Access point after doing the initial install this worked great with my laptop and phone as I set the IP as 192.168.0.50 for the C6 and used the DHCP for the higher end of the IPs with the Virgin dishing out the lower IP range eg 1-100 for the virgin and the C6 from 101 to 254. I could print to my printer which is set to 192.168.0.100. I normally like to hand configure my devices with manual IPs so I can keep track of whats what. the printer worked fine from my laptop on WiFi
.
I then plugged my Gaming PC into the port 1 on the C6 and nothing. i looked at it puzzled and looked on the laptop and everything was fine. clean and fast connection to the printer the network etc. i then went back to advanced and noticed it said wireless access point and at the top it said "In this mode, the router can provide internet access for multiple wired and wireless devices. This mode is required most commonly." Now I need the ports to work as i have 3-4 devices in the bedroom that i need on the network wired. so i tried to set up as a router and obviously knew the IP for the WAN was going to be 192.168.0.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 but this makes my LAN 192.168.1.1 on the C6 and DHCP all my hard wired and wife devices. so now I cant print.
I unfortunately cant remember due to my Older age how to get the IP to pass through to the other network so I can access my NAS and Printer and so my printer and TV and WiFi devices can access my server in the bedroom. Why don't TP-Link allow the DHCP from the router in the living room to work through the internal switch and the WiFi. even the cheapest AP does this.. I only chose the TP-Link because of its physical size as it has to fit on the wall behind the shelves in the bedroom.
I used to work on Network installations and setups but the equipment back then was not what it is today. no security to speak of and WiFi was still a very expensive option. early 2000s.
Thanks in advanced.
