Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

Why is it so painful to replace the main unit???? First attempt it says the new unit doesn't have the right config, try to replace with an existing unit in the network, keeps failing. Now attempting to connect another unit and that is not working. I have had to replace 3 units from my network. The main was the last one standing and it is now whirring due to overheating so need to replace it. If I had not bought another unit to replace the main I would be replacing the whole lot with another mesh network.

The built in option for switching the main deco "sometimes" work but it has never worked for me. To get my network back up and running I had to do the following

1. Reset all of your Deco units by pressing the reset button on each one.

2. Using the Deco app, set up your newest Deco as the main unit. Since you have factory reset each unit, you will be able to use the same network SSID and password as before.

3. Once the newer model is operational, return to the app and add the remaining Decos to your network.

Need help with the Deco app, setup, Ethernet backhaul, network switch or rolling back firmware? Router or AP mode? https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/699816?page=1
